Have the neighbors and some friends coming to my place... boxing hasn't ever been big in my lifetime, but this one intrigues me. It's a fantastic excuse to drink beer with friends as well.

Yep, I have loved boxing all my life, boxed some as a kid.

I hated to pay 89.99 for this but I did. I hope Pacman wins, but not sure he can. 5 years ago I would have bet on him.

I am pulling for Pac, I want to see the wife beater go down.
2 channel: Anthem 225 Integrated amp; Parasound Ztuner; TechnicsTT SL1350; Vincent PHO-8 phono pre; Marantz CD6005 spinner; Polk SDA2BTL's; LAT International speaker cables, ZU Mission IC's and power cables all into a PS Audio Dectet Power center.

Other; M10 series II, M7C's, Hafler XL600 amp, RB-980BX, Parasound HCA-1500 amp , P5 preamp, all in storage. All vintage Polk have had crossover rebuilds and tweeter upgrades.

Friend of mine put it as, "Mayweather has been dodging that fight for years. What is 12 more rounds?"

Looked to me as if Mayweather was in "don't lose" mode. And folks wonder why the UFC continues to grow....

UFC is too brutal for me. I'm an Ali "science of boxing" kind of guy. But I must admit I have not followed Mayweather at all so I had no take on this fight. That said, I usually go with the "boxer" rather than the puncher/slugger so had I known Mayweather better I would have picked him.

UFC stuff is too free form for me, almost anything flies in the ring and lots of fights just look plain "ugly"! I'd rather watch a pure martial arts tournament.

Mayweather is always in a "don't lose' mode. He's a tactical boxer, not a power slugger like a Mike Tyson. Nothing wrong with that imho.

UFC is a different animal.....more so a street fight with minimal rules. After all, anyone who gets into a real fight, there are no rules, right ? Put a boxer in a ring with a UFC dude, betcha the boxer would lose every time.

That said, 100 million ? Seriously ? Time to retire....

While it wasn't the fight I wanted to see, it was the fight I expected. Mayweather is a tactical fighter and not a brawler like Pacman. Had it degraded into a street fight, Pacman would have wrecked Mayweather.

    Yes and no.
You put a UFC fighter in a ring with a boxer and make him fight by boxing's rules, the boxer is gonna whoop the UFC guy 9 times out of 10.
Same works in reverse though as well.

They are 2 extremely different rule sets. That's why you don't see boxers going over to mixed martial arts and vice versa. MMA requires multiple skillsets but has a much more open rulebook compared to boxing. Boxing requires a very focused specific skillset but has a very specific rulebook to go along with it.

All of that being said, Conor McGregor is a beast and probably the only thing on this planet you and I will ever agree on.

According to today's paper, Pacman is getting shoulder surgery. He omitted to tell the boxing officials he had an injured shoulder. Whether this affected his fighting, I have no idea. I guess the money was too good to miss the fight.

I think I prefer the way the UFC scores "controlling the ring" for one. He who pushes forward in the UFC, usually gets points for that. Mayweather certainly boxed well based on boxing scoring and the "science of the sport", but it was an underwhelming show, at least for me, due to the fact that he spent most of his time dodging/evading.

And if you have watched or trained multiple forms of martial arts, UFC fights look a bit less free form I think. I'm no pro nor a tough guy (very much quite the opposite), but I did take Muay Thai and BJJ classes for a couple of years. Seeing someone connect a Thai clinch to a BJJ take down for example makes my eyes light up. I understand the basics behind both of the moves, but for that fighter to connect them seamlessly, and on the fly, blows my mind.

Different strokes I guess. And I used to love boxing as a kid. Some of my first fights seen were Sugar Ray/ Marvelous Marvin, Whitaker/De la Hoya, Tyson / the world, etc, so I did have a taste for it at one point. I guess we need another Tyson to come along for my interest to be re-piqued. Until then, I'll keep up with the UFC.

Using the rules to win fights, is that wrong ? Look at ALI.....a master at it too. Granted it can make for a boring fight over a slug fest, but a win is a win and that's all anyone will remember.
