Is it worth replacing my PSW505 with an SVS PB1000 or SB1000 Pt. 2 (a confession)

First the confession: As I stated in part one "I think I need more sub". I embezzled the funds for a PB2000 from my vacation account and it is on the way now. Being the lazy sort that I am I told SVS that I didn't want to go through the trouble of returning the PB1000 and would run it in my small system where I have moved the PSW505 to. I need help I know lol. Now the question: I just hooked up a wye splitter to the left and right input on the PB1000 (as per sVS) however I have not yet rerun the YAPO. Now the PB1000 sounds like plenty of sub. I had to turn the volume down from the three o'clock position that I was running at to have enough bass to be almost to my taste. Can anyone explain why I perceive such a difference by simply adding the splitter? I hope I love the PB2000 because I am definitely to lazy to send it back lol. I guess I will be in pig heaven spending my vacation in my lazy boy instead of somewhere nice!

A couple of things you can do.
1 Set the PB1000 on top of the PB2000 and get a ton of boom!
2 Set the PSW 505 onto of the PB2000 and if your receiver has pre out for a center hook it up.
Why mess with the lower end SVS subs to begin with? PB12 plus or PB13 Ultra are the great ones, Before a PB1000/PB2000 I would have went to HSUWhen I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

Hey mrloren maybe I will have a use for this 505 after all. Why should I hook it up to a center channel though or are you joking?
As for HSU I liked the PB1000 enough that I figured I would stick with what I know something about. The PB12 plus will not fit anywhere, the PB2000 barely fits but at any rate it just happened that I ended up getting both so I have two decent subs instead of one that I like and one that I dont like.

by hooking up the y splitter you have essentially gave the sub a 3db boost in gain. If you re-run your YAPO it will compensate for this.2 channel:

No I am not joking,
For HT the center is the most important speaker, so You would have the sub hooked into the pre out and the normal center speaker. Run the auto calibration and see how it sets it. Something I have always wanted to try but never had the extra sub to do it.

oh ok I dont have the center pre out available it is going to an amp. The the avr does have two outs fro subs though so I will try it on its way out to the garage I think it will fit on top of the 2000

mrloren can you elaborate on the sub/center channel configuration?
-
Just something I have always wanted to try but never had the chance to get my hands on a low cost sub to do it.
hook up the center speaker as normal to the receiver
both of my receivers have pre outs for the center channel. run the pre out to a sub just for center and let the subs crossover work.
This would either sound great or like fried salted fish burning! When I was a kid my parents told me to turn it down. Now I'm an adult and my kids tell me to turn it down.

I will check it out and let you know how it goes. I have a couple of low cost subs lol.

I've done it. It can work. But ultimately running one or two really good subs and setting the center speaker to 'small' is the simpler, overall better option.
Why? Because one or two really good subs is better than three or four mostly cruddy subs.
Example. Just one HSU VTF-15h had more overall output than three PSW505's, and a PSW650 run off the center channel.Up

Since I have my center running though the amp can I run a 4ohm unpowered sub on my 8ohm AVR speaker out? Just wonderding since I have one collecting dust. It says it's 40-200htz.

You can do a lot of things. Should you? No.
I've climbed the Polk subwoofer ladder, and tried many configurations. Had fun doing it too. If you want a short cut, sell all your subs, buy one really good one. Thank me later.

Like I said I will plug the 505 in for the hell of it on its way to the garage.
