Is it worth replacing my PSW505 with an SVS PB1000 or SB1000

Would it be a noticeable improvement or do I have to spend more?

Huge improvement, night and day for sure. Bigger sound no booming, instant cracks when needed and not muddled at all. Polk subs work nice, I've had two of them but no comparison to an SVS or other higher end make. Note I don't use my SVS for music.

I ordered the PB1000 as suggested by the folks at SVS. They said it would be the best sub for both HT and Music.

I have been wondering the same and almost everywhere I look, i see the same response!

I used to have the Bose Acoustimass 10 and so the 505 was a dramatic difference for me!

I had a Polk sub, though can't remember the model number, and it never grabbed me. I had a hard time integrating it to my system and was always having to cut/boost volume and try different placements. Stopped using it after a year and went w/o a sub for 5 years.

I saw the new flock of online subs a few years ago and decided to go with the SVS PB1000. It really has been an improvement in so many ways and the SVS company has been great to work with.

SVS steered you right, in suggesting the PB1000 as it does have much greater output than the SB1000.

    Enjoy it!

I replaced a PSW125 with Ricks SVS's I bought and it just digs deeper, Going back to the "Darla Scene" Ken & Halo brought up, it almost shook everything off the walls. I'm happy with the change up.

I just looked on SVS and discovered that they have a system called Merlin that will help match the correct SVS with your speakers. Here is what Merlin told me to match with my RTA-8Ts.

Here are the best SVS subwoofers for your Polk Audio RTA-8T Floorstanding Loudspeaker :

    PB-2000 / $ 799.99

Perfect for demanding music and movie applications in mid-size rooms.
    ◾Ported Box
    ◾12" 2000-series driver
    ◾500W (1100W Peak)
    ◾22" x 19.75" x 25.2" (HWD)
    ◾17-260Hz ± 3 dB

    PC-2000 / $ 799.99

Similar performance as the PB-2000 - but with a minimal footprint!
    ◾Ported Cylinder
    ◾12" 2000-series driver
    ◾500W (1100W Peak)
    ◾16.6" x 34" (OD, H)
    ◾16-260 Hz ± 3 dB

    SB-2000 / $ 699.99

Compact dynamite! Punchy, musical bass perfect for mid-size rooms.
    ◾Sealed Box
    ◾12" 2000-series driver
    ◾500W (1100W Peak)
    ◾14.2" x 14.2" x 14.2" (HWD)

Not the new one with the single rear port but my 25-31PC+ has 3 top mounted ports. It is amazing.

Cathy, the Merlin tool is cool. I'd suggest the OP give them a call. They have great technical people to assist you with exactly what you're looking for.

I never saw the Merlin thing until now. It suggest the PB-2000/PC-2000. I just got the PB-1000 and it is really nice. Maybe before the year is out I can upgrade to a 2000 although I am pretty pleased with the 1000 for the little listening I have don so far.

If you're spending that kind of money check out the HSU's. Performance for the buck the new VTF3 Mk5 and VTF15h Mk2 seem hard to beat.

I found the SVS's Merlin tool the only thing about SVS and their website that I was NOT impressed with.

I put in a number of different monitors at random and I got essentially the same recommendations for each one. EVERYTHING else about SVS is top notch but I just could not understand the benefit of having fields you plug in your info in and get a questionable recommendation. I would think there would be too many variables.

On the other hand, every time I called SVS I got a quick response, great technical info, not a hint of a hard sell, and the friendliest people. Thats part of what sold me.

I'm saving for a SB2000 for my 18x24 bonus room

I am kind of locked in on the upgrade path. SVS will let me trade up within a year. All I need to do is find the addition 300 bucks and send this one back to them for the PB2000 although I may be perfectly happy with this PB1000 it does really well with music so far and I wonder if I would lose some of that with the 12 inch driver of the PB2000.

Well if it's any help. I drove over 200 miles to get my PB12 (Bash) sub last year. BEST 200+ miles yet lol.

I came from twin 505's and being modest, the PB12 absolutely crushes both 505's in EVERY way.

I feel totally confident as I could just ditch the tower speakers and use the sub with nice bookshelves. But I am. Just accustomed to the tower listening.

Ever way, PB1000/PB2000. Should please you

I had 2 psw 505's and loved them. I made a huge upgrade with Polks dsw series. I know have dual ultras. They are incredible! Better than the imax. Highly recommend svs! My buddy is on the same path and is interested in a pb2000. DO IT! And don't look back! But please consider a hsu vtf 15-H for the money.

I think I need more sub. This PB1000 is quite an improvement over the PSW505 but to get close to the output level I want I am running it close to max volume. The folks at SVS said that this is ok but I think I would be better served with the PB2000. I sure dont want to go through packing this up a shipping it back. I wonder if I should keep it and get second one down the road or go for a single PB2000 or even the HSU VTF-3 MK5. I lean toward the SVS just for the 5 year warranty. What do you guys think?

Looks like its a step between the 1000 and 2000.
