Johnny Winter is 70 years old today! Met him about five years ago and talked with him in his trailer. Kudos to new manager Paul Nelson for turning Johnny's personal life around. Tours pretty extensively, catch him if you can, you will not be disappointed.

How about another birthday ... Actually tomorrow.... 39 years ago. I was in the dorms when this came out. Popular routine that spring to come home from classes and point the speakers out the window while cranking "Custard Pie." Really pissed off the R.A.

This came from WBWC 88.3 and has the usual write up on it for the DJ. (mostly soft rock)
Summary comment: THIS LP DESERVES OUR ATTENTION 9-27-78
Produced by Jeff Baxter (and he plays on it)
Victor Feldman plays on it
Michael McDonald plays? and sings on it. This band had every chance!

Nah, just those two I think. Hauled the band's gear in and got to talk to Johnny for awhile. Was friends with the promoter, he knew I always like Johnny so he asked me if I wanted to help out and meet Johnny, had to drive the band to dinner also. Later, we were sitting on the steps of the venue and Johnny's manager comes out of the trailer and asks if there's a store around with watermelon. I said, "it's the beginning of June in Wisconsin, there's no watermelon around here now." He says Johnny wants a watermelon. Some guy jumps up and says he'll find a watermelon. 45 minutes later he comes back with a big bag. He found a watermelon and they invited him in the trailer and he got a whole bunch of photos with Johnny. Guy said he drove five hours to the show and had been into Johnnie since junior high. Hard to believe he's 70.

So say you fancy yourself a pretty good song writer and you are lucky enough to be signed by WB.
Who do you get to help you in the studio? How about:
Ry Cooder, Jim Keltner, James Burton, Emmylou Harris, Albert Lee, Hank Devito, Hal Blaine, Willie Nelson!
Rodney Crowell - Ain't Living Long Like This promo copy.

Very cool!
