People are taking delivery of them this year. It's got a Toyota Celica GTS engine, and it's only 1800lbs. That figures to about a high 12 second 1/4 mile, can out-turn most anything on the road, and still be 40k

Holding out for 2006 Ford Cobra Mustang. What's not to like about stock 390hp?

Hopefully it is not another workaround job like with the "Elise International" or something company. Sounds like it as they were registering them as kit cars with a Honda engine.Originally posted by Steve@3dai

Have they been crash tested? -
Now that the wife has a new ride...it is not a question of if....but when I get a new Mustang GT. I may wait until 2006 models come out to make sure all the bugs are worked out. Probably won't get the Cobra."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

They are from Lotus, you can see them on www.lotuscars.com.
Yes, it's been crash tested, this is a production car, not a kit car

Good deal. People were getting into trouble with the previously imported Elise'.Originally posted by Steve@3dai

That would be a nice second car for autocross duty. I think I'd still keep GT-R for bigger tracks, it still has a much better power to weight ratio even at 3200lb.

It's gonna take the AutoX world by storm

The problem will be the class structure. It might get the short end of the stick for all we know, or it can get lucky. It all depends on what class they go into.Originally posted by Steve@3dai

I can't even dream of taking the GT-R to autox and be competetive. Automatically into TSM class even if it wasn't modified. Wouldn't make a difference as it is 3200lb car that is in 2nd gear even on the biggest autox tracks. Doesn't matter how much power you have or what the power/weight is when there isn't room to use it. That is why the Elise might be competetive even with its puny engine, it doesn't take much to move 1800lb. But it all depends on what class they put it in. -
Yea, true, they are more than likely going to put it into some AS or BS, maybe SS, but I doubt that.
I'm in TSM with my WRX, freaking boost controller
I just go out there and have a good time, hehe. LSi 9/C/FX

Same here but I have only had time to go once to Texas Motorspeedway. Trying to get one of the more remote tracks to completely ourselves so we can start tuning my car outside of a dyno. It is fun but more suitable for shifter karts than real cars, IMHO. -
The Lotus Elise is a go for US production. TopGear even reported it. Expect price to be around 35-40K. It's supposed to be out this year as an '05 model. Production isn't going to be real high though so get in line now if you want one.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

That's the Texas track I haven't been to. Ran TMR, *loved* that one. Ran TWS, liked it, but my car broke
hahaha

Let me know if you do, I might get the Skyline out too. Just got a call that clutch slave cylinder has been fixed. Matches the one in RX-7. Ahhh, the joys of trying to hunt spare parts for JDM car...Originally posted by Steve@3dai

if i wanted a real fast car i would get a porsh killer 3000gt vr4 but i want style and looks and some power. i will be opting for sothing better than the 170 hp 4 banger in it like wait till they offer it in turbo or a 250 hp v6. ps it has a .9g in the skid pad
-
If you're talking about the Elise then you have to realize that adding a more powerful engine is likely to increase weight on the thing. Increasing weight on the engine department is then likely to cause unbalance on the weight distribution and they would have to redesign the car. Not going to happen. Do it yourself and give not give a damn about balance? Yes, you can do that but then you have ruined the handling.Originally posted by goingganzo

no i am talsing about the Solstice also addint a little weight up front wont hurt sence i will be upgradeing the sounds in the car and that will nalance the weight if they add a turbo or super charger.

From Joel regarding the LotusI'm pretty sure the Elise is coming back to america soon, forget when i think i read an article about it....
It's here already....I saw it in a showroom here in San Francisco....yes, under $40,000. -
Now that I think about it, I saw one on the road out in CA a few weeks ago when I was going to an Angels game. I had to scan the back end for a little bit to be able to read what kind of car it was, but they're out and about.....comment comment comment comment. bitchy.

Awesome, i'm definately going out to the showroom and drooling for a little while, lol
