Thanks, Randy. My Pio isn't very beefy so it would probably struggle, which is what I expected. I guess I need to go back to my original plan and get the upgraded caps on the 7's from Trey. -

Every RTi speaker I ever heard sounded the way you describe. I just think that is the signature sound.2-channelBelles 22A Pre, Emotiva XPA-2 Gen 2, Marantz SA8005, Pro-Ject RPM-10 Turntable, Pro-Ject Phono Box DS3B, Polk Audio Legend L800's, AudioQuest Cable throughout. -
Are you using that pioneer vsx821k on Monitor 7's. that should sound very nice--i am using a Marantz 2252b on 7's and it is very nice @ meduim volume on my 6300tt. Very happy with the 7's. would love to upgrade but wallet says NO

I apologize for that post. I admit, I was in a pissy mood. I guess we've all done it at some point or another. Also being on a budget, I typically look for inexpensive gear but only to enjoy it for myself. If I ever sell something, I only want to get back what I paid for it. It isn't often that I sell something for more than I paid but I have done it.
I would think that your receiver would have an easier time driving those RTi8's than it does those Monitor 7's. The 7C's are 4-ohm speakers whereas the RTi8's are 8-ohms IIRC. I do miss my 7C's. Awesome speakers!
Sorry again and happy hunting.Sorry you feel that way and I guess I agree. But I did say "after trying them out" so it wouldn't be just flipping them. I don't know if my little Pioneer is enough to drive them. The Monitor 7's are easy to drive, but I figured those speakers would require more umph. My house doesn't have much storage space at all, no garage, and I don't have room to keep multiple sets of speakers, mostly just those I am using.
So I wouldn't just be flipping them, if I bought them, which I didn't. I like trying out different speakers but can't afford those I would find in a retail store. So if i buy speakers that I know I can resell for at least as much as I paid for them, it lets me demo them for free basically.
I recently lost a fairly good paying job and had to take one that pays less than I need. Spending money on a hobby isn't a good idea right now, so if I can find some enjoyment from it without using funds much needed elsewhere, that's what I do.
I often come on here to ask what the value is because I know most people here are more knowledgeable about what's good and what's bad and what I might be able to "flip" if I don't like the sound.Display: Sony 42" LCD

There is nothing wrong with flipping, especially if you can still offer it to people for under market value and still make a buck or two. I've done it numerous times and will continue to do it. Recently I got a package for $300 and sold off most of it to the tune of $700. I've still got a few items from that sitting in my closet. Certain things I buy for resale, certain things I buy for myself, and others I buy for friends to pass along a great deal at no cost. Each scenario is different.
I will say this: if I didn't buy certain items for resale, there is no way in hell I'd be where I'm at in this hobby, either experience wise or gear wise.
^^^^Absolutely. I mostly buy with the intent of keeping for myself, but if I'm browsing ads and see a sure-fire couple hundred bucks sitting right there in front of me, I'll go pick something up. What the heck.
I'll usually spend some time with whatever I get... enables me to hear new stuff and different combinations."I did not slap you. I high-fived your face." -
Again guys, I apologize for that post. I didn't mean to derail the thread. If flipping is your thing, then cool beans. I guess I have a personal bias against it because of one transaction in particular a few years prior. I was selling a receiver and this guy showed up to buy it. He had a sob story about why he wanted the receiver and that he was on a strict budget. I felt bad for the guy and lowered the price of the AVR for him and even threw in a pair of Polk bookshelf speakers for not much more. I thought I had done the guy a favor.
Less than a week later, all of the gear was on Craigslist with a MUCH higher price on it than what he paid. I was pissed off to no end. He even listed links to other gear he was selling and it became clear that he was a flipper, nothing more. I wanted to strangle him.Display: Sony 42" LCD

Not to continue to derail the thread, but no problem, HTguru, I was just a little surprised at the post after reading about a lot of other people on here demo-ing used gear like I do. So far everything I have bought used, I paid what they were asking, it's just that in some cases they asked too little.
-
^ I bought a pair of those a few months back when they were on sale for $40. They were a good fit in my rear doors and made a big improvement over the stock speakers. For $30 you can't go wrong.

South Carolina? Looks like South Charlotte. I have family down there, too. I'd love to get those and have my sister hold onto them. Probably gonna be down there in December. Yeah, I am sure it's close to Charlotte and I work in South Charlotte so could probably check them out petty easily. If I had the extra bucks, I would get them and hold them for you. I had a pair of RT55i's and liked the Monitor 7's better, but they did sound good. -

If I had the funds right now, somebody would be getting paypal'd, trust me. But I'm probably done with any major speaker or electronics purchase for a while. I told my gf about two pairs of speakers ago, that I was done. "This is the system I want, I promise." Well of course something better comes along the following week. "This is it, I promise." After the RTe55's that I should get in the mail today, hopefully I will be done for a while.
