Pretty sure you missed the intention of his comment by a ballpark.

Then the originator shouldn't have been so open in allowing interpretation.

OK seriously Monk, I could careless about what they are "supposed to be called". I wanted opinions on SPEAKERS THAT ARE SMALLER THAN A FLOORSTANDER. OK? Does that make enough sense to you??

Honestly I don't get how this is hard. I wanted opinions between the two, and suggestions for other speakers (and once again I don't care what you call it, monitor, bookshelf, stand mount (who even calls it that??)).

Please just stop posting in this thread, it really did nothing for me and still is doing nothing pertaining to my question which it appears you are very good at not giving any feedback on.

 Wow. Glad somebody put an end to that.

They probably won't be suited to you but I am constantly impressed at how large my baby Totems sound. When the dealer let me demo them he warned that they were the most unassuming little speaker I'll ever hear and he hit it on the head. Big sound from a little box. In your price range there might be a few models in the line that might be worth a listen.

Do you have a genre that you listen to more than others? And do you feel your missing something from your Carver's?

Music for me is hard as I listen to anything and everything. One day I'll be playing classical, move to metal, then to some trance etc. I'm all over as I enjoy pretty much anything under the sun.

I'm not replacing the Carvers, I'm just trying to get some ideas for a 2nd system I have. I was doing a HT set up and was planning on running an all Lsi set up but also for the same room was thinking of getting a nice pair of 2 channel monitors and running it off some Musical Fidelity gear. I was going to run Lsi9's front, 7's for sides, the Lsi center. Right now I picked up a cheap Pio Elite AVR to run and was looking at a 5 channel amp. I like the Lsi for HT and music has been good, just needing something a little more.

The Musical Fidelity would just be a side thing running another pair of "stand mounted" speakers. It might not MF gear but that was something I wanted to try out. Was looking at an integrated, otherwise the Teac higher end series integrated or the LSA amps. NAD is also a choice. Just will depend on what I go to.

The main system is going thru some changes, I'll have the Carvers but I'm getting some other speakers for in there right now. Soundlab is what is going into that room shortly.

Oh and I do have a sub I use with the Lsi's right now if I need a little extra low end. Just a cheap Energy 8". Don't need it with the 9's but find I need it with the 7's or my Thiels.

Thanks for the info! B&w not my fav as I have heard them before and while good just didn't love them. I need to come down your way when I have some time as I've heard some great things about the pioneers and need to make it to your friends shop

I'll toss a vote into the Ushers or the Revels. Revel makes a heck of a bookie, even their older models stand up. When it comes to speakers, no less than a gazillion choices out there. Try and get an ear on as much as you can.
    HT SYSTEM-
    Sony 850c 4k
    Pioneer elite vhx 21
    Sony 4k BRP
    SVS SB-2000
    Polk Sig. 20's
    Polk FX500 surrounds

    Cables-
    Acoustic zen Satori speaker cables
    Acoustic zen Matrix 2 IC's
    Wireworld eclipse 7 ic's
    Audio metallurgy ga-o digital cable

    Kitchen

    Sonos zp90
    Grant Fidelity tube dac
    B&k 1420
    lsi 9's
