Playing music from iTunes on my 2-channel stereo.

As the title says, what is my best option to play my iTunes library on my 2-channel stereo? I am currently using a Yamaha HTR-5860 as a pre-amp, ADCOM GFA-5500, and a pair of RTA 11Ts.

My computer has an HDMI out, I know there are a few companies that make a splitter to pull the audio out from HDMI. Would this be a viable option? Will my computer limit the quality?

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

    I use an airport express to transmit wirelessly and use an optical cable from the airport express into my receiver. Sounds pretty good to me and fairly inexpensive.

    Yes and no.....ITunes alone will limit the quality to some degree. If you go this route just make sure you use apple lossless when downloading music files.

    If I use iTunes, I use Apple lossless and stream through my Squeezebox. After reading some posts here I think JRiver would likely be a better alternative.

    Your lucky w/ HDMI ,I have a 10y/o Gateway that I use the headphone jack > a double splitter 1. side to keep in my room 2nd to run into a Y splitter w/ mini jack male > rca to my Yamaha then out of the avr into the tuner input of my Onkyo pre/amp .Very convoluted but it does work.

    You cannot download lossless files from iTunes the store. They only sell lossy files. If you want lossless files then you need to use iTunes the software and copy CDs using Apple Lossless.

    Yes of course.....maybe I should have added..."...from your cd collection".....at the end of that.

    You can find an AIOS for $70 when they go on sale. I used one for a little while as a media player, but switched to Dune media players. I've never really tried to use a media player for music.

    I use a High Resolution Technologies Music Streamer II+ DAC which uses USB signal and power, then analog interconnects from it to the preamp. This system works great. I also use VLC as a player rather than itunes. VLC will play FLAC files, where itunes will not. There are several options for a player that are better than itunes.
