digital coax cable vs. rca cable

I have a gold-plated RCA cable running from the digital out of my cable box to the coaxial digital in of my Harman Kardon AVR-320. Should i be using a digital coaxial cable? Does it make that big of a difference?

It depends. A digital coax requires a 75 ohm impedance (RG-59) cable. RG-59 is not that expensive. For instance Target sells a 6ft RG-59 (75 ohm) coax/digital cable for $4.95. Works beautiful, every bit as good as the expensive Monster brand in my opinion. Your cable may have its impedance printed on the insulation, if it is RG-59 or equivalent you are in great shape.SDA SRS 1.2

Digital needs RG-6. Yes a digital cable will make a big difference. Its sheilded so your othe cables won't pick up the distortion for one. Go to C.C. get one try it see if YOU can teel the difference. If you can't take it back. RCA cables come in many types, digital is different then reg. Try a search and do some reading it will be to your bennefit.

I have heard that any RCA cable will work. You should test them both out to see which one you like best. I personally bought a digital coax cable at Rat Shack for $14 and it works great.
