Yamaha cr1020 Ive got a project to do tomorrow. I have got some major dust issues and i would like to remove box off stereo. Im guessing it slides out back of unit. Is the box anchored down by the screws on bottom of unit? The back side of this stereo has some major dust. Im going to lightly vacuum it off. Clean backside before wanting to open it up and see how bad inside is----i have all intent to have it serviced by Electronics n More but id like to open it up myself. I have not had a chance to look it over yet so i thought id drop a post and get tips on what to look for..thanks for any help

Yeah, I think on most of the CR-xx20 receivers the wooden "sleeve" is held on by five screws on the bottom. This was fairly common in Japanese receivers of the 1960s into the 1970s, dating back to the days when the wooden cases were extra-cost options! The bottom screws should - if memory serves - have large metal 'washers' that are probably actually square, with turned down (well - turned up, really!) points at their vertices which grip into the wood on the bottom of the sleeve. Should be pretty obvious.

My CR-1020 is still in the basement here - I can dig it out and take a photo if need be :-)

The service manual's at http://sportsbil.com/yamaha/cr-1020-sm.pdf The copy isn't terribly clean but it does show, and explain, the cabinet removal on the ninth page (just enlarge the pages 'til you can see them clearly). The US and EU cabinets are different (as noted in the SM).

Those old Yamaha receivers just ooze class to me. I just love the look of the silver face with the wood cabinet.

Holy crapola..hooked it up..oh my tons of clean power. Oh my what a nice cr1020 vintage stereo..it blows the doors off the 820....i have to say last year when i picked up the 620 i fell in love with the Yamaha cr model..its a different kind of sound than a Marantz or Sansui. Just plain old clean as heck sound. I am pleased fo have them. On tt its just down right beautiful to me..Mhardy & others thanks for all your help through my adventure with these....this is hooked to Klipsch temp right now--the 820 will be hooked to Polk 7's when they arrive this week. and the 620 is hooked to Polk 5jr's....the Yammys sound fine.....i hope in time to get the Polk 10's for the perfect vintage speaker for the cr1020 i just got. Thanks all :)

It is better built than the CR-xx20 or CR-xx40 receivers; it has a very good tuner section (perhaps the best of all of the Yamaha receivers - with the possible exception of the 3020).

Is the cr1000 the one you hit the tuner button and it goes to the next channel or something like that
