Happy Monday! Just back from a 5 mile run. My running playlist was second set of:

    image.jpg

I love the one-drummer era Grateful Dead, and Bill Kreutzmann's drumming on this show is amazing. Phil Lesh is sounding really nice on this as well. Sadly, my 1st Gen iPod Shuffle doesn't do gapless playback, so the transitions between songs were rough.

ESPECIALLY on THAT show. If memory serves me right, there is a Playin> UJB> Morning Dew> UJB> Playin that is killer. I would HATE any gaps in THAT sandwich! I think they only played that exact sequence a couple times. I've had several different soundboards of that show for a long time. Does the new Dave's Picks release sound any better than the commonly circulated soundboards???
    2-Channel: PC > Schiit Eitr > Audio Research DAC-8 > Audio Research LS-26 > Pass Labs X-250.5 > Magnepan 3.7's

Living Room: PC > Marantz AV-7703 > Emotiva XPA-5 > Sonus Faber Liuto Towers, Sonus Faber Liuto Center, Sonus Faber Liuto Bookshelves > Dual SVS PC12-Pluses

    Office: Phone/Tablet > AudioEngine B1 > McIntosh D100 > Bryston 4B-ST > Polk Audio LSiM-703's

My plan was to listen to that exact part of the show on my run, so the abrupt gaps in the transitions, were painful. Also, I ran for almost 50 minutes, and started listening to the beginning of disc two, so I only got through Playin>UJB>Morning Dew>partial Playin. before I got back. I've never heard the soundboards for this show, so can't comment on if the Dave's Picks release sounds better, but it sounds really good. I've read some reviews that say Bob is too low in the mix. He isn't prominent, but there is good seperation and I can hear him fine if I listen somewhat carefully. To my ears the mix is really well balanced and very dynamic. I was noticing this morning how Phil gets some really loud bombs in there, but also plays quietly as well. I'm thrilled with the sound, but again can't compare it to the soundboards. My wife gave me a subscription to all of the Dave's Picks releases for 2013 as a Christmas present. I haven't heard any of the previous ones either, but this one is really nice. Good luck finding a copy for a decent price though as dead.net is sold out.

More from the Great One. Playing this on a Cherry Wood tonearm I just put on an old Thorens TD150. Made an armboard out of Corian, sounds pretty sweet.

And she had a ton more. Apparently, this guys cousin passed away and this guy is ripping them and then selling them to the shop. The collection is basically in brand new condition. My guess would be that there were at least 30 zappa cd's. A ton of jazz as well.

Ohhh, if it were all vinyl...I would be in heaven.

My favorite song on the album and it should be cranked, same with Richie Havens Freedom. Those two alone are worth the price of admission.

Dire Straits 1st album. I swear, the last three songs, In The Gallery, Wild West End and Lions are about as good as they come.
