Sub time your thoughts

I was going to do a SVS sub but I am looking into others as well. I would like to know your guys thoughts. Here is my soon to be combo..


1) RTIA9's
2) CSIA6
3) FXIA6
4) RTIA5
5) XPA2 (front speakers)
6) XPA5 (center,sides,rears)
7) UMC-1 pre amp


Space is not a issue, large room, high ceilings. Svs is saying PB13 Ultra or two PC12 plus. But man big bucks for subs. Thanks Guys :biggrin:

    H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.

    If I where in the market right now, I'd probably be buying from HSU Research. I think you can get good, deep bass from any number of sources - SVS, Epik, Velodyne, Definitive Technology, etc... Oh yeah, the Polk microPro series is pretty tight, too!

    JTR Capivator or Seaton Submersive will destroy anything made from SVS, HSU, Polk, Epik, JL audio, etc. They're within your budget and are serious subs.

    Not from many of the hands on reviews I have read. For the Price point HSU VTF-15. Sure The Captivator and the Submersive are better subs but many of the reviews I read didnt see that it was worth the price difference..

    Have you read the GTG threads or sub shootouts on AVS? The VTF 15 is a really good sub but not in the same league.

    i agree that the subs you mentioned are better, however for the price difference and from what reviewers state, I felt the word deystory was a lil harsh, lol

    I think the OP will win with any of the above mentioned subs. I cant wait to take the next step up. I am personaly looking at the HSU VT-15, If I was wealthier man the Seaton would definetly be at the top of the list.

    Not even in the same league but I'll be nicer... The Cap and SubM is much better than VTF-15.:mrgreen:

    All are great subs though. DIY is also a good choice.

    I'm sorry, but I must have missed the many hands on reviews you're talking about. I have yet to see first hand opinions of the VTF-15 being better than any of the JTR or Seaton models. Quite to the contrary.

    Funk Audio is another brand that is close to those two.

    I have a Genelec sub and I like it a lot. In the past I have had a Infinity (12" 200w), Jensen (10" 100w+?), and a Bay audio (10" 100w+?). None of then can touch the Genelec sub. However the Infinity Sub was awesome.

    My buddy has the Polk PSW505 12" and that thing is a monster. I would maybe order one off Newegg and give it a testrun. For only $250 you cant go wrong. It sounds great and looks great too.

    B&W makes a mean Sub too. The ASW608 may look small but it packs that awesome B&W sound. (comes in Black Ash, Light Oak, Red Cherry or Wenge ) My first choice for your setup would be this Sub. I have installed so many of them and they blow me away every time I fire them up.

    Those dual Epik legends would be, well, epic! I am a fan of the SVS cylinder subs too but a sealed sub interests me. Whichever way you go I humbly recommend you get something to control them such as a Velodyne SMS-1. In my case it made my sub work for both music and HT where before it was HT only. With dual subs it seems like it would be even more beneficial.
