The Polk Flea Market and the equivalent on Audiokarma.com (I believe they call it Barter Town?) and other audio sites. Some like AK require entry fees. Don't let things get to you, I only own a few things worth a between one and two grand. 20K, not going to happen! lol

Sales ratings haven't been functioning on this site for years! The Badone above is OK! He'd have several positive ratings by now! He has some nice stuff for sale!

Listen to me now and hear me......ahhh whatever that guy used to say.

Deb and i took my new TT to a place called audio alternative in atlanta to be set up properly.

Well, let me tell ya, between doing a thorough job, and waiting on customers, taking deliverys etc. it took alan about an hour to do the setup.

That was fine with us, because he had several rooms with spectacular gear setup.

One had vandersteen 7s being powered by ayre electronics, i believe theTT was called an apollo.

The system was roughly 120,000 dollars, the speaker wires alone were 7000 bucks.

The TT cost 20,000, it took him all day to set it up, and an hour just to get the belt on, and it was visible, it was right there, not inside the machine.

He played an album with a song i had heard, something about walking to memphis or the like.

My impression using my 54 year old ears, i will never again feel i am mising out on something because i dont have that kind of money, It just was a very nice stereo.

Now, having heard that setup, we walked into the next room, ayre components, this time a diana krall cd playing.

We just sat without speaking, the diff?

We were listening to magnepan 3.7s.

Now im sure the components had a lot to do with it, and not all types of music is going to sound their best on maggies, my point is, listen to as much of a range of gear, know what you like and know that a lot of that top hat stuff is really more about something other than the sound.

Just my 2c, and yes i would still probably kill a couple of you guys to own that first system, but i wouldnt spend that, and im never gonna think that way again about my piddling little audio budget.

Don't sell those old ears short. Outside of not being able to hear "super high" frequencies they're probably fine. My latest hearing test was "perfect" except for high frequency capability which is normal with age. Scored a 100 percent on speech recognition, etc. And although much is made about frequencies even above 20khz, most music is nowhere near that range. Great soloist performers play on into their 90s and more. And your basic FM stereo reception tops out at 15 Khz and still sounds fantastic with a good tuner! And most of us old-timers can "almost" hear that high!

Of course the younger dudes do have us on "electronica" and the like. lol
