Just curious.

start with Sami's thread

He's going to use three RTi70 as fronts and center. So I think that would be a good idea. For example, compare R20 and CSi20, the features of R20 is better than CSi20 but R20 is much cheaper. And R20, as well as CSi20 is a perfect match with R serial. But I did not see a lot people doing this. One concern I could think is the looking. What else?

Maybe there is some special design in center speakers I do not know...

I use three RT25i speakers as my fronts and center. I had one RT25i from flea market purchase (the guy only had one) and bought two off eBay. I went this way due to my liking the sound of the 25i so much. I dont feel the need to obtain a pure center channel speaker as the panning between the three is seamless. Give it a try.

If you're using a TV then you might have problems with magnetic shielding and placement. My setup sounds great, certainly better than with either JBL S Center II or CSi20. Don't have a CSi40 to compare it with.

Borrowing company equipment next week to calibrate. If someone in the area has a CSi40 and wants to test how they compare, they are welcome to come over with the center speaker.

i use a pair of monitor 5's for a center, with great results.
the right bookshelf speaks will make a great center in my opinion.

It's pretty much an aesthetic thing, but make sure that the speaker that you use is magnetically shielded so you don't jack up your set.
