Speaker Wire Under Carpet.

I was just wondering if anybody here has run wire underneath carpet. I'm getting new carpeting in my family room and I'm not happy with the wiring I just ran behind my baseboards. My room is 4 feet below grade and I ran the wire to my rear speakers behind corner trim up to a ledge that is 4 feet high. Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks!

Tell the installer to leave padding about a half inch away from wall, then drop your wire in before the carpet gets kicked in. then have him notch corners to bring it up the wall. As long as your not stepping on it and have decent insulation on wire you should be fine. It worked for me.

Thanks, that sounds like a good idea.

also you run an electrical snake after the fact and use the tackstrip as a guide.Just pick up very little on the corners to expose the snake. However I do not think is recommended for very low gu. thick spkr wire. If any concerns about fire there are none w/ spkr wire runs.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

I'm getting ready to have to do the same thing. My new house is a two story home and I can't pull wires in the attic like I did at my last home.
I may end up pulling around the crown molding and then down, limiting where I have to pull under the carpet. -
if possible, think about dropping it through the walls/ceiling and use wall plates then connect your surrounds to those. I know SilverTuner did that in his townhome and it looked quite nice."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." Back under the moulding and your fine if you have to cross the tack strip be certain to cut a notch of it out so the tacks don't penatrate the wire.
