Anyone order the Sharp Elite television yet? Wondering your thoughts as many are calling it the Kuro killer. Seen it at Best Buy and the blacks were better but the lighting was very bad in the room.

We didn't get our floor models in yet and we are already planning some jobs with them.
I did go to Best buy and study one for a while. The blacks are impressive and the color and movement is fantastic. The 70 inch model is breath taking. Urushi black has been the standard since Elite hit the market. The new receivers and Blu ray players are all coming in this very finish. Honestly I hate it.
Would I buy this TV and replace my 60 inch Kuro? Going 70 inches would be incredible but I don't think this is a Kuro killer. I do however think it's the best looking LED TV I have ever seen so far. Once I Install one and really get to go deep , set it up in a real world environment will really answer the question. Right now I'll go with a huge NO. I'd rather Pioneer Elite make a 70 inch version of my TV.Dan

For the price of these TV's they should kill everything on the planet including the Kuro's. I am waiting for my Best Buy to get them in so I can check them out. All I hear is how amazing they are so I am excited to see them even if it's in Best Buy and not in a home setting!(3) PS3's, Xbox 360, (2) Wii's and Nintendo NES

Price wise they're on par with the 60" Pioneer Elites with much more options to it. Many Kuro owners will probably not admit it but this tv is a step in the right direction.
Also a nice feature is one person being able to watch 2d while another person is watching 3d. So if you're not a 3d person and your kids want to watch 3d both parties can get what they want. -

It still sounds annoying if everyone has to wear the glasses. -
3d is just a feature. If you wanna use it or not it's up to you, but it's going to be included in every mid to high end tv.

I saw a 70" model hanging on the wall at our local Future Shop here in Canada. Its stunning to say the least. An outstanding picture and a good price. They were showing it to be $2999 that day, but by this time next year it will likely sell in the $1500 - $1600 range when they have their best sales on the go. I had 60" Plasma models at the top of my list for my main TV ( current 50" will go downstairs ) but now I have the 70" Sharp right beside them. I am a Plasma man, but I will have to take another look at this one for sure. My oldest Daughter thinks I'm crazy to put something that big in our livingroom....oh well....I guess I am.....but what the heck.:biggrin:Home Theatre.............

I saw the 70 and 60 inch tonight at a private showing at the local Jamison's A/V store tonight. It was simply stunning! The colors were right and the detail was outstanding. Yes,you are correct....it was actually the 70" Aquos Quattron I saw now that I think of it. I wasn't even aware that they had an Elite Model. Our Future Shop has a few of their TV's calibrated on display and this could have been one of them. In any case the picture was an eye catcher. And for the price these tv's will likely go for over the next year.....it would be a great deal for someone who wanted Size and a Quality Picture at a budget price. It sounds like the Elite Models will be better, but what a major price difference to get it. The Elite won't be on my short list...:frown:Home Theatre.............

Dan,
I am notmpretending to know 1/8th of what you know about A/V, but according to the demo I had last night, that's exactly what
happened. Sharp hired the Pioneer engineers when they purchased the rights to the Elite name, their charge; to build an LCD/LED that would equal or surpass the Kuro. I think in your hands and tweaked the way you want it, you are gonna be blown away. Be prepared to spend your money man.

I know most of the inside making of these new Elite Sharp / Pioneer models. We still don't have our floor models as we are cleaning house selling off all old stock. Time will tell when I get my hands on one. Video basically sucks **** , I'm no huge video fan or guy. But I have been taking notes on all models since Pioneer Elite stopped making Plasmas. The LED LCD's NONE of them have fully impressed me. Try calibrating them , any one of them. Sencore don't lie , the results are the results. Panasonic Plasma's are nice at best and not in the same league as Pioneer. They simply don't have the blacks, color or grey scale for that matter to hold true to any Kuro I have calibrated and I have done many calibrations on many Tv's.
LG tried to make a strong plasma but fell very short. I was convinced for about 3 seconds that they made a really nice TV. Ok they do , they don't totally suck **** but very close to puckering up. Samsung makes a very nice clean plasma but I have had to many power supply failures and now I'm gun shy. No body else makes a plasma worth taking about Vizio? Whatever.
Sony LED / LCD's are probably hands down the best overall on the market but are still pledged by the very essence of LED technology. Sharp also makes a strong LED / LCD case as they have been doing it the longest. The 4 color thing is a joke but works.
So we are left with this new Elite but it's LED. So off angle sucks ****. Over a fireplace sucks **** , high speed motion on the chopping blocks as I didn't see much blur when I watched one as BB Magnolia. But that was not enough content or time to really form a strong opinion so I really don't have one yet. Blacks where very nice but so are Samsung's. Artificial looking but still nice.
We live in this world where all the greats fall , HDMI sucks and 3D is trying to be something it's not. We leave audio behind all the time and it's video video video. Years ago Video was beautiful with Mitsubishi , Sony Toshiba and Pioneer Elite making badass floor standing film like looking CRT monitors. Monster video for Monster movie and football night. Component worked every single time you plugged it in. S video tried but to many stupid people would break the connection with retarded attempts to plus given cable into it's place. RGBHV was really where it's at and should be again. I say screw digital and lets all go back to analog.
The real world is analog where things are real. I should have taking the Blue pill.Dan

As a very long time fan of Pioneer Elite , I'm slightly annoyed by this new set. I know I haven't officially demo'd and reviewed it for myself. I try to be the one in the industry who welcomes change and moving forward. Over the years this has bit me a few times and lately I watch companies fall which I held dear to my heart. It's pretty frustrating to see all this go on.
When you look at history , you see a product line that stood alone. You see a product line that held itself in high regard and earned respect not demand it. So lets look at a few things here which stays on topic but just slightly off the side of the road.
1) Urushi finish. This has been the trade mark of Elite since the beginning. Ok moving forward some fool wanted to go Brushed Alunium. WHY?? Why change what worked? What was one of the things that separated you from the pack? For me I hate it. I like Brushed style finishes on any other product but Elite . Someone gotta stop touching things or it's going to be something.
2) LED. I know Sharp is a LCD company and to my knowledge never produced a plasma. Pioneer never made a LCD to my knowledge as all of there sets where plasma. My beef is plasma technology is superior to LCD any version and why is the industry moving away from plasma? I know all the stupid marketing reasons but really whats the really real answer to this question? Try to get a really real straight answer out of anyone. I'd like to stand their with a Louisville Slugger on my shoulder awaiting a honest answer.
3) Blue Ray players. Ok this is where I have a pretty big beef. I never purchased one for many reasons and went in other directions out of my personal needs. Ok maybe it's selfish but maybe it's not but why offer the very first universal player , hit a home run with it , come out with updated beautiful players in DVD format and leave it all behind when Blue ray hit the market? Pioneer prides themselves on Audio quality and offering the best at their respected price points. So why take what you have been doing a great job on and leave it at the curb? Moving forward? I'm suppose to move ahead with now having to have multiple players in my system so I can spin my SACD and DVD AUDIO disks when I didn't have to before?
4) Dropping out of the TV market for a few years. Ok If they where developing a brand new technology of which they showed a number of years ago and made a splash , I'm so for doing so but they pussied out and teamed up with Sharp( I know this isn't the first time) and went with 4 color LED. I believe this was a poor decision especially since they are close to the most expensive Tv on the market and being LED and having some issues that comes with that technology. Does plasma have off angle problems? Lets see 180 deg viewing angles , hmm no problems there. Motion , can we say CRT abilities? No problems at all.
LCD go suck ****. I hate you.Dan

It had to be said, and could not have been put anybetter,, as its all true. Not an Audiophile, just a dude who loves music, and decent gear to hear it with.

This is something I just can't rationalize... if it looks so good on it's own (so much so that you can't decide), then IMO it's just fine. You're probably not going to be putting it in a room with another TV at its side. Not trying to argue with anyone, just interjecting my perspective on things. My family thinks our 720p plasma is fantastic - my son was commenting on the picture quality just the other night - but I'm sure it wouldn't hold a candle to one of these when placed side by side... That's why I'm not getting one.txcoastal1 wrote: »I demo'ed the Elite 60" today at distribution, going back next week for a side by side with Samsung Plasma, Sony LED, and Samsung LED....the Elite is fast and accurate but cannot decide with with out a side by side

I believe it's about the price tag that comes with it. Everything has value but to what end is up to the person forking out the dough. These TV's are not cheap compared to most others and actually about the most expensive inch for inch. Something that costs more then most others needs to have things stick out and make it worth digging deeming into ones pocket.mdaudioguy wrote: »This is something I just can't rationalize... if it looks so good on it's own (so much so that you can't decide), then IMO it's just fine. If I was back on the market for a new TV , It would be hard for me to buy one without weighing out all others. I don't look for the gem dollar for dollar best product but I first gotta find the ones that suit my needs , then discover the best product for the money. Soometimes I wlll go for the better model as I don't like giving up anything offered. In the Panasonic line you have basically 3 choices ST GT and VT. All these sets are nice but as you go down , you lose something. I'm not sure life is long enough to give up things. I can make more money.Dan

So what kind of warranty do you get on a 8000 dollar TV?

I'm happy with my LED Quattron... that said, I'd love a Elite Kuro plasma but my living room is not that dark. Someday... didn't care for any of the Panny plasma's at the time we were buying our TV. Probably **** calibration @ the local Best Buy.

You don't have to live in a cave to appreciate a Kuro plasma's great picture. Just don't have direct sunlight streaming in and reflecting off the screen. A moderately lighted room works fine. Although for blacks that fade into the black bezel of the screen, you'll need a carefully controlled ambient light source, even at night. -

Oh I know. Other contributing factors include price, availability and needs. I didn't want to buy a plasma as the TV would see lots of still images with good above average PC usage. At the time of purchase, lighting was considered. We knew we would be moving and we had to factor in what our future place might have for lighting. And with the current plasma's out there and me NOT endorsing Samsung what so ever, I walked into buy a Sony LED set and walked out with a Quattron. It's no plasma but I like it. Blacks are damn near bezel black at night.
Someday however... I may own that Kuro. Don't get me wrong, I know lots of people hate on the Sharp's and that's fine. I like mine and it serves us well until we can buy a real plasma down the road.
