A friend of mine just got a widescreen HDTV sony somethin or another and (amazingly to me) he doesn't even have cable. Plain 'ol rabbit ears. Kills me.

I've thought about getting a big screen, but I don't know that I've ever seen a bigscreen where someone isn't automatically running with a Dish or better.

I travel EXTENSIVELY, and I'm not footing the bill for a Satellite system that I won't ever be there to watch, so with that scenario cable is the default.

Basically the question is this......Would getting a HD set be pointless if you're only going to use cable?

    Brett,
Go to WWW.TitanTv.com and see if any of the stations in your area broadcasting an HDTV signal Over The Air (OTA). If they are then a WS-HD is practically a must have item! There are some sets that already have the HD Decoder built in, while others require a seperate box. I'm getting my local OTA-HD through a cheap ($10) rabbit-ear antenna.

    **EDIT**
Looks like there are quite a few DT stations in the Phoenix area.

    You silly man. JK :D

I have an HDTV and I use rabbit ears for OTA broadcasts. it's very cool stuff. yes i do have a sat dish.. but i'm watching more and more OTA network tee vee than ever before. The 4 major networks (abc, nbc, cbs, fox) are broadcasting more and more programming in HDTV. I'd prob never go back to cable again.

the video quality from a sat dish is better than cable. yes even better than digital cable. i pay less for dish network than i can for the same amount of channels of cable tee vee.
