Jesus, 900 watts each? Did I read that right?
Holy hell, think of some LSi's, SDA's or RTi's on those bad boys.....sheesh...

That's a lot of tubes.Michael

In the beginning, all knowledge was new!

They look awesome but I can't imagine the amount of heat those tubes radiate. I know what a couple EL34's run in class A @ 10wpc put out. I suppose if you can afford the amps and have a large room to run them in you can afford to keep the room cool.
Then again most rigs don't need 900wpc of tube power. Definitely over-the-top and definitely a statement piece. Nice to see Bob is still in the game and having as much fun as ever.

So do I.
I am not certain how "new" they are, as these appear to be a modded set of Silver 9's that Bob has had for years, and we just spoke of them a few weeks ago. I wonder why he is selling them as he gave no indication they were on the market. Perhaps the 10k he go for the last pair has him testing the waters a bit. Then again most rigs don't need 900wpc of tube power. Definitely over-the-top and definitely a statement piece. Would be nice to hear what 900 watts of tube power sounds like on some big boy speaks like Grand Utopia, Montana's big boys, or some Legacy Whispers.

Shoot with something like that I would make a custom plexi bottom piece (heck even might make the entire bottom sections plexi) and put it on a see through glass shelf so I could show it off."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." I agree 1000%. All Plexi all the time. -
I question whether or not Bob will actually go through with the sale on these... There are two sets out there, this being Bob's personal set. The other was built for a friend. When I asked Bob a few months ago about them, he was under no desire to part with them. The Gear... The SDA 1.2TL doesn't need anywhere close to 900wpc to hit a fidelity firewall. These amps are for much more serious loudspeakers.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Fixed. The SDA 1.2TL doesn't need anywhere close to 900wpc to hit a fidelity firewall. These amps are for much more inefficient loudspeakers."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. I would think that the target market for these amps is very well insulated from the bad economy.

Oh. Mm. Gee.

And i was going to put a $200 bid on it just to say i did....guess that boat sailed :redface:nooshinjohn wrote: »So much for a bad economy... these suckers already crossed 7 grand!Where’s the KABOOM?!?! There’s supposed to be an Earth shattering KABOOM!!! -
Oh wow! Beefier Power Cords and Better Binding posts. I am very very impressed with this one.
Anyone wants to make a guess on the final bid price?
I'd say 18K.Trying out Different Audio Cables is a Religious Affair. You don't discuss it with anyone.:biggrin: -
I didn't read your post until I posted mine and we're thinking exactly the same....:-)
The paint was 5Gs so I estimate the final bid to be over 15K...
Bobs most powerful tube amps ever has to have prominence accompanied with fierce bidding for them.
They might even go to 20K.Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

Wow! Amazing amps! But $5000 on the paint job?!?! That seems a little excessive to me. But hey, each to their own...
So... who's bidding on them?
BTW, I reported the post above. Dang spammers!!! -

I'd like to see the types of transformers used, you want to talk about lethal voltages - I wouldn't even want to open the bottoms up - nothing but death waits for you in there.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

Sounds like a great tag line for a warning label lol....
Warning: Open at your own risk, Nothing but death awaits you
John you should soooo put that on the bottom of your amps....
I could even make you a logo for it"....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -
Actually, Gary Dodd coined a similar phrase and did put it on the bottom of the custom monoblocks he made for Danny Richie.Check your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service.

was going to bid but thought it might be overkill for my TSi 100's

There is an interesting read on the auction of the last tube amp he sold on e-bay.TO ERR IS HUMAN. TO FORGIVE IS CANINE. -

I'm not sure I've heard someone say that but it's a ridiculous statement for sure, regardless of it being anything Bob Carver built.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. I think I saw a set of Silver 7's on Audiogon here this week...

I'd almost bet they were Silver 7t's which are solid state mono's. They don't fetch near as much as Silver 7's which are tubes.
