Would HDMI sound better?

I have a Pioneer receiver that has an HDMI 1.4 input for a DVD player. I also have a Pioneer DVD player with an HDMI output. I currently use the RCA audio cables between them. I'm using this mainly for 2 channel listening to music with an occasional movie. I only have two monitor 10b speakers. For better sound, should I get an HDMI cable to use instead of using RCA cables?

it all would come down to which has the better DAC. The DAC in the CDP could be a better DAC in the AVR thus you would want to keep it where you are at now.

I would says the Pio you have for the AVR is more of an entry level one and I don't have any experience with the DVD player. I would say that if its a more entry level you would be able to leave it where you are at right now and would be just fine as you probably wouldn't notice a difference between the HDMI and the analog outs on the DVD player.

    +1, cstmar01.

What people usually do is run the equipment both ways and see 'which' way sounds 'better' to them for 2 channel. That said...I suspect there will be little difference.

You'd be better off investing in a decent mid-level CDP such as the Marantz 5004 for 2 channel? And keeping the Pioneer DVD for movies.
