I upgraded my 7.1 system LSi series to Magnepan.
It's another option to consider

I have heard the lsi and own the ml source
They are 2 diff animals but if I was going HT then for the money the lsi gives you more . For 2 ch the source are great and alot of folk say they are lacking but I find the 8 inch drivers to really smash out he bass
I watched windtalkers and the transparent sound as builets were flying was miraculous, the explosions were fast and dynamic . When I first got my source after having a full rti setup the diff was night and day because the speakers are so diff. A comparison is impossible between cones in coffins and electrostat panels
If I were you then I would pony up the extra $650 for a pair of the new ML electromotion as the have a bigger panel and sound similar to the flagship $5000 models -

Maggies sound fantastic. I am more than thrilled with them in my home. A demo comparing the little MMG's to the LSi's found everyone in agreement that for two channel listening, the Maggies bested the LSi-15's, and came damn close to the Polk SDA-2.3TL's.
Properly powered, you cannot overlook Magnepan, though I grant you a sub is needed for HT use.The Gear... The only thing is Maggies for HT might get tricky due to them IMHO not having as wide a sweet spot as something like the LSi's have. Also not sure how a center would work since they need space behind em as well. The Imaging is spot on w/ Maggies and I wants me a pair (and so does my wife which is even more surprising), but for 2 channel only.
Havent heard the ML's so cannot comment on them."....not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted." William Bruce Cameron, Informal Sociology: A Casual Introduction to Sociological Thinking (1963) -

The Op never asked about maggies ?
ML have a cone for bass so they will be better for HT -

True that... I have not heard many pairs of ML's but those I did, I did not care for. I would lean towards the LSi's for pure HT over any planar/mag or electrostat. The Gear... Well I would love a 3 pairs of 3.6 for HT
Maggies give you more for the money -

We must listen to the combination of Magneplanar 1.7, CC3, C1, Velodyne Optimum 12 as a home theater.
Surpassed my previous 7.1 system LSi series in a surprising way, exceptional.
I'm waiting to try along with my Magneplanar 3.7 that currently use only two channels. -
The Source would be a very nice introduction to the ESL line of speakers. You have to listen to them in your house, room and type of movie/music to make an informed decision.
I personally don't think I'd have anything but an ESL for my 2 channel setup. I prefer cones and domes for my HT. For a dual system, the recommendation to hear them in your own place is doubly important.
Keep us informed! You may end up with something outside of your two choices!!
