The above was unbelievably good. Best thing I have read in a very long time from either a subject matter or a style standpoint. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED... Opted to wait a bit to cue up book #2, Theodore Rex....The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt by Edmund Morris. This, the first installment of his Teddy Trilogy, won Morris a Pulitzer. If the book is half as good as its Prologue - 1907, this will be a good read.
Next up All the Shah's Men by Steven Kinzer, an account of the MI6/ CIA overthrow of Iran's government and the installation of the Shah in 1953. A couple of early notes:
1. Kinzer is not half the writer Morris is; and
2. Even this switch couldn't get me away from Roosevelt... the principal CIA operative was Kermit Roosevelt, Teddy's grandson.More later,

If any of you have teenagers. I'd recommend a book that I am currently reading with and for my 13 year old. Sophie's World: A Novel about the History of Philosophy. Jostein Gaarder (A best seller in Norway in the 90s that went on to be translated into many other languages, including English).
Written as a combination of mini-philosophy lessons backgrounded by a mystery in the life of the young girl who is taking the correspondence course. Very educational and stimulating for the precocious mind!

"Infinite Dreams" The First Collection Of Short Stories by Joe Haldeman (science fiction)
looks very interesting as I am into sci-fi and like short stories. Any good?
I been working through How God Changes Your Brain: Breakthrough Findings from a Leading Neuroscientist and a couple books by Frans de Waal, especially interesting is Primates and Philosophers: How Morality Evolved. I don't agree with a lot of what he says, but it is really provocative.Living Room 2.2: Usher BE-718 "tiny dancers"; Dual DIY Dayton audio RSS210HF-4 Subs with Dayton SPA-250 amps; Arcam SA30; Musical Fidelity A308; Sony UBP-x1000es

Didn't realize you were into fiction Tony...

I set aside Shakey for a while... wasn't that I couldn't get into it, but I kept thinking 'bout Morris' Roosevelt trilogy so I checked out the 2nd book, Theodore Rex.
BTW, Teddie's book was a decent read... stuck me as self-aggrandising at times, but about half those times I came away thinking, "nope, that was warranted."More later,

I am getting a signed copy of this book soon. I am collection Presidential Autobiographies that have been signed. In honor of Ronald Reagan's 100th birthday, I re-read his book, "An American Life". Good, a quick read too. Compared to other books discussing the Fed, this one really shines in describing the key players and history of the establishing of the Fed.
