New End Table Sub

Ok guys I finally decided to try my hand at building more end table subs.:eek::biggrin: However, after this one is completed, I will put this one up for sale. I will first offer it up to the great folks here at Club Polk. If nobody is interested or if this is against the rules I will graciously put it up for sale some where else. This will just be a trial run lol. I will even honor the manufacturer's warranty on the woofer and the amp. I will be using a 10 in Infinity this time to keep the cost down some for both the buyer and I. I used the same sub in a friend's vehicle and it sounded great hooked up with close to 400 watts running to it. Amp will be the Bash 300 again, I know some of you don't like it lol, but for the cost it does well. Thought about the Dayton 240 but some might not like it cuz it doesn't have a dedicated LFE input even tho it doesn't matter. It will have a 3 cubic ft enclosure tuned at 23Hz. The enclosure will be black satin again, many thought it looks real nice against the different colored solid hardwood. I will leave the legs, trim, and top all unfinished. This way the buyer will be able to choose from different colors I will have so that it will better match their decor, also giving more people a chance to buy the sub:biggrin: If more people become interested in this I will offer more options such as sub size, woofer manufacturer, amps, and some passive versions as well for those that wish to power them with rack mount amps. Also, I'm not trying to be the next SVS, Epik, or anything like that, that truly is only a dream lol. Wish me luck guys!:smile:

Oh and Face, if you read this, I'm finally getting some wood clamps:tongue: Not buying the Bessey's yet, just some standard cheaper wood clamps for now. But someday I will buy those Bessey's, those were very nice:eek::biggrin:

Almost forgot, this probably won't be finished till around some time in February.

    Well I went and picked up the wood today. I got a flat front tire when I pulled into the parking lot:mad: I hope that isn't a sign for how this sub build is going to go:eek: Should start working on it here soon.

    Got some goodies from Fedex today, the port flares and Acoustic foam:biggrin: I haven't been able to get started yet cuz I've been sick:frown: So hopefully I will be able start cutting some wood next week:biggrin:

    Well I finally started building this thing today, only a couple months after I bought all the supplies lol:redface: I cut all the wood today and will start gluing it together tomorrow. I'm changing the tune to 20Hz when finished. I'm also thinking about changing the look just slightly from the one I built for my friend. I'll try to post a few pics as I get further along.

    Oh and Face, still no Besseys yet but I did finally buy a nice plunge and fixed-based router kit:biggrin:

    I decided to round over the edges of the braces today, man am I glad I bought the router. Had my shop vac hooked up to the dust collector, very little bit of mdf dust:biggrin: How have I lived without one for so long after my junk one crapped out on me a couple years ago:confused::eek: Made lots of progress, no pics yet as it's just a box and I already have a few pics of boxes on here lol.

    How much do you think you would charge to build one with a 12 in dayton rs driver with the dayton 240 tuned to 19hz? I would love to build one myself but just don't have the skills :-(

    I don't have the slightest idea yet as to what I would charge to build these things if people become interested lol:confused: However I do know that if you don't already have the driver and amp, those will run right around $300 and around another $100 for supplies. Being you're in Texas, unless you would be up this way any time soon, shipping wouldn't be very cheap because of size and weight. And like I said I have no clue as to what I would charge for time:redface: It takes me about a week to build one since I gotta work, dohhh!!! But I'm guessing with amp, driver, supplies, shipping, and build cost I'm guessing somewhere between $700-$1,000 for an end table sub. Which I have found a site online that offers just an end table that fits over a sub(basically just a shell) that costs right around $1,000 and one company that charges $2700 for a complete sub.

    I bought the Bosch, liked it a bit more than the Dewalt. Little more power and also has variable speed. Only thing that sucked was that I had to buy the dust collector separately whereas the Dewalt had it included. Also not as long of a warranty and this is the first Bosch tool I've owned so hope it doesn't crap out on me lol:eek: And almost forgot, all you wood workers out there, what brand router bits do you prefer?

    I have a Bosch router also, haven't had a problem with it yet.

    Dewalt is good, but I wouldn't call them high end. Check out Festool.

    I still have a Black & Decker jigsaw that I bought 15 years ago in high school that works like the day that I bought it. Had a Dewalt 18 volt chordless drill at work that had the motor burn up within a little over half a year:mad: Yeah the Festool ones are very nice but a tad much for me lol...However my Bday is coming up soon and you know one of those circular saws you have would look real nice at my house:biggrin:

    I have to admit I am not familiar with this brand. Looks great on the web page but I'd love to see them physically and have the feel for their quality. On the opening page, the multi tool is similar to the expensive Rockwell (BTW; in my younger adult days Rockwell was my top brand before the skill which is no longer impressive) TV advertisement. Do you find that brand in US local stores or only in specialised tool boutiques/shops?

    When I address Dewalt as high end tools, I am talking about the average Joe home tools. I own their 10" circular saw (you should have seen my son's face when he powered that when we were working on my house roof) I also own a Dewalt reciprocating saw and they both work flawlessly for years. I've redone major home renovations with them and it was such a pleasure.

    To me, Dewalt beats just about any home brands on the market (B&D, skills, Makita or any of the Canadian store brands).

    I think you can't go wrong with some of the Bosch tools, Porter cable seems to be a good brand also (one of my body plumbing enterpreneur used mainly those tools in is business). As far as a router, a heavy duty dremel with attachment could also have been a good option. Very light and portable not counting the versality of such tools. As I age, I also find lighter tools suits me best ;)
    Check out Festool.
    Hum, doesn't seem to be that popular in Canada. When searching for a dealer, it provided me with 5 locations which closest is 60 miles from home and the fartest being 230 miles. My only opportunity to enjoy shopping them would be when going to Montreal area to see the family. I wonder if my little sister would mind shopping tools with me (she never mind shopping electronics) :) I wouldn't take my oldest son, we would both have to sell our homes (bankrupty) :(

    Ok finally some progress pics, mostly of the inside as the outside is not much to look at yet lol. Still have to clean up a few edges around the amp cutout and glue in the acoustic foam that you see in the pics. Tomorrow I should be installing the port tube and gluing on the bottom baffles:biggrin:

    Well I didn't make much progress today, sick.:frown: I did get the port done, even though I had to make my own coupler rings because the Dayton ones were a tad too small:mad: I was going to glue on the baffles until I realized I had cut the wrong sized holes, dohhhh! I cut holes for a different driver:redface: However I don't feel like messing with cutting today so it will have to wait lol.

    Well things are finally getting back to normal around here again. I glued on the outer baffle and finished cutting the legs:biggrin: Next I will paint the enclosure and glue on the legs, trim pieces and the top.

    Ok more progress today. I sprayed it with some black satin paint and added the legs and trim pieces to the enclosure. And yes i know you all are probably wondering why there is a small area that's unpainted between the legs and where the black starts. I'm going to do i thin line in a different color, just haven't decided exactly what color yet. I think i might go with a dark grey so that you will notice it but it will be subtle. And dohhhh, I ran out of wood for the last trim piece on the back, miscalculated the amount I needed:redface: Now I just have to finish the top, and do a little filling and sanding at it will be done. Well, except of course for the stain, I'm leaving it bare until somebody buys it and decides on what color they want:biggrin:
