Loving my SONOS music system!!!

I never thought that I'd buy into all this new digital age stuff but I decided to climb on board the train. Am I ever glad I did! This thing is flat out awesome to say the least.
I went with the ZP90 for my stereo hookup, the ZP120 for my pool deck speakers & the CR200 controller (the S5 speaker will be added very shortly) I have all my CD's ripped to FLAC via dBpoweramp & stored using J. River Media Center.
Set up took all of 5 minutes & even for a computer novice like me it was a snap. The way this system is configured I think you can run something like 32 zones, be able to play a different music venue in each, & control the volumn for each zone is just way cool.
The sound is quite exceptional using the ZP90's dac & that was a very pleasant suprise. My Music Hall tube dac is almost done being hot rodded by Stephen at Quest for Sound & will be the ultimate addition that will really add the extra kick to the system.
Just the convienence alone is worth the price of admission. To have all this music at your fingertips is simply amazing. I'm listening to smooth jazz on Rhaposdy right now & it sounds incredible. I've been checking out a few internet stations & the Reggae music from Jamaica was a nice change of pace.
No more getting up & down putting a new CD in the player!!! Those days are long gone. I'm loving the new digital age!!!!

Now you know, and as long as you preserve the chain starting with the ripping you will have no degredation in sound.
Since I am packing for a move I've already packed my music server computer and HD so I have relied on the physical discs recently for music. What a pain compared to the convenience of my Squeezebox set-up. I will never go back to physical media in a cdp again.
Have fun Phil, you will listen to music in a whole new way. Only downside I've found is I tend to pick and choose favorite tracks rather than listening to the entire disc. But you can train yourself to consciously hit play from beginning to end.

congrats man.. I've thought about the Sonos system myself and in the future I still may end up going with it, but I see myself downloading the occaisional hi rez(24/96) file so right now i'm just running off my laptop. If sonos adds Hi-res compatibility I may go that route at some point.. enjoy it.. i've heard a lot of good things about the system and that it is pretty much as plug and play as you get to the point that you can even just plug an NAS directly into the back of the ZP90.Only downside I've found is I tend to pick and choose favorite tracks rather than listening to the entire disc. I agree, though with media monkey I have a tendency to just hit random and have it pick like a random jukebox.Main 2ch -

Brock...I feel your pain, having to go back to physically loading your CD's until your move is complete! The horror! Hopefully it won't be too much longer. I'm telling you though I can't believe how awesome this type of set up is (which you already know) I just wish I did it sooner...I ain't getting any younger!!! And those poor guys still farting around with vinyl, that's cruel & unusual punishment. -
Sonos is the single best multi room system out there for the money. I love the system and everything it can do. You can also control it with a Ipad Ipod or Iphone with the free app.
Life is good today in audio. If you need any help Bro just drop a line. I have been doing Sonos systems for years.Dan

I did ask SONOS about the hi-rez bit & they told me that if it becomes popular enough they wiil have an app to handle that. But to be quite honest I'm not the least bit interested if they do it or not. The sound is simply incredible & talk about the convenience factor...it's off the charts. And the music choices are simply unlimited. I think I'll take another trip to Jamaica tonight for some more Reggae or maybe to Argentina for some Latin Jazz.

Agreed having set up a simple server myself,I'm enjoying the convience.JRMC is a slick little program too.pearsall001 wrote: ».. talk about the convenience factor...it's off the charts. -
Dan,
Any experience with Q-sonix units or the Music vault Diamond ? The Diamond as I understand it, can do hi-rez audio and blu-ray.HT SYSTEM-

I am sure the Sonos has a better DAC than my Squeeze box so I am sure it sounds better, but I will still use my tube CD player when I want to do some serious listening.Sunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t

I wouldn't nec. assume that. I use an external dac with my Squeezebox and if I owned a Sonos I would do the same.

Agreed. My hot rodded Music Hall dac should be back home next week to take it's place being fed from the ZP90. I'm anxious as hell to hear this puppy working with the Sonos. -

Congrats! I'm curious as to why you are ripping to flac and not uncompressed wav. Is it because of space or?
Thanks."The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it." Neil deGrasse Tyson. -

Is there some advantage to having an uncompressed file versus uncompressing a file to the original file?
Personally, I like saving money, and saving space. Using compression increases the number of songs I can store before needing another drive, and without losing any audio quality. Seems like a good deal to me.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Ok. Thanks. I just learned that flac retains all the quality of the uncompressed wav file. Now it makes total sense and I'm glad I finally took the time to read about it before I started ripping...
I'm really looking forward to doing this."The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it." Neil deGrasse Tyson. -
Loving this Sonos!!!! I was so thrilled with my original purchase of the ZP90, ZP120 & CR 200 that I went out & bought the S5 and another CR 200. Now I'm covered downstairs with my main system, the outside deck & the dining room.
Nothing like having 3 different music genre's going at the same time & controling the volumn for each. Pandora, Napster, Rhapsody, (checking out Wolfgang's Vault as we speak) just to name a few have really added a jolt of fun to my listening pleasure. The Vault gives you live concerts going way back in time & current. How's about Elton from Wembly for a Sunday afternoon. Modern technology...gotta love it.
This thing is so incredibly easy that my wife is even thrilled with it. And for her to operate a controller is a feat in itself! My mother in law is German & couldn't believe how easy I took a trip to Germany for her old favorite radio stations & to be able to do a search for her German artists and to have all that music at your fingertips just thrilled her to death.
I guarantee you that she'll have her husband pick up the same set up for their house. Amazing!!!!
Two channel is very nice & still an important part of my listening but to be quite honest it pails in comparison to this!!! -
Phil, as a comparison to your 2 channel rig, and the Sonos without the addition of a seperate dac, would you say SQ is up to snuff ?HT SYSTEM-

Tony, in a word...yes indeed! I'm truly impressed at how well it perfroms in my system. I should be getting my dac back this week & then I'll be able to do a direct comparison as the music is playing. Even without the dac though I would be quite pleased with the system.
But you know how this crazy hobby goes...good enough is never good enough! But I firmly believe I've reached the point of just kicking back & enjoying the music. No more IC's, PC's, this or that piece of gear or that piece. I've reached the end of the road. Happy listening.
