I am looking for a cheap DVD-Audio player

So last night I threw in some DVD-Audio discs in the blu ray player.. and it sounded pretty bad. I haven't had a DVD-A player for about 5 yrs now. I had no idea till I heard the DVD layer, how much better the DVD-A layer sounded, from what I remember.
I used to have a cheap Panasonic or Pioneer DVD player.. I'm looking for another one or maybe a Sumsung from that era. just need it to have 5.1 analog outputs for the DVD-A layer to play. Does not have to be mint condition.. if it's a bit rough looking, that is fine too.
Anyone have one of these dinosaurs laying around collecting dust?

Don't the Cambridge Audio players like the DVD-89 play DVD-A? Those go pretty cheap on the used market and were built pretty solid. I'm not even sure what the difference in codec is for DVD-A. I have some DVD-A discs and I always just played them in a regular DVD player, do they really take a special codec/player?DKG999

I have a few year old Panasonic DVD/CD changer that can do DVD-Audio and has 5.1 outputs on the back. But I'd have to think about parting with it?
Those old Pannies, if you can find one, almost all of them do DVD-Audio, as you know that was a Panasonic thing. And they're pretty cheap as well!

Still have two Denon DVD-1940ci's, been thinking of selling one, it's in the bedroom and I don't think it's been used more that once or twice. Have to think on it.

Pm me I have a Pioneer Elite Sacd / DVD audio player in near mint condition . I have the manual , remote , power cord. It's also HDMI out.Dan

I've got a H/K DVD47 that I'd be willing to let go for like $20 if you wanted. Only thing wrong with it, is thre little flap covering the optical out is missing. Not sure where the heck it went, all of my stuff is prestine otherwise.
It's got 7.1 analog out, and HDMI (though it sounds like the HDMI doesnt support audio? - leave it to H/K to have some weird **** limitation to a high-end player)
There's always google, but I know it plays DVD-A as well as SACD, and it's got full management of the analog outs if wanted/desired.65" Sony X900 (XBR-65X900E)

YES! if you have never heard the DVD-A layer on a disc.. you are missing quite a bit of high rez audio.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

ok guys. thanks for the offers.. let me do sum research on the ones you all listed and i'll see which one will work for me. I do need at least 5.1 audio outputs to hook up to my stuff..
one Samsung DVD-A player I saw on Ebay was cheap.. but it only did the high rez layer of DVD-A via HDMI.. not the analogs.. so it said.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

My Elite does. Looks like you got some good options for what you need. I'll let mine go cheap. I have a Cambridge Audio Azur now and the Elite doesn't pull duty anymore.Dan

What the hell... I've got a Panasonic DVD-S97 that you can have just as a matter of karma if you want it. May even have the original box. A few scratches on the top from having a cable box stacked on it, but was in full working order when I replaced it with the Oppo BDP-83. Has analog outs, HDMI, and was a damn-near-reference upscaling DVD player.
PM me your address if you want it. I won't be able to drop it off at UPS until next Tuesday because of my schedule (and car problems), but hey... it'll be worth every penny you pay for it.
(And if I recall correctly, it was flashed with last known firmware, region free and RCE-unlocked.)Equipment list:

thanks everyone for the generous offers for a DVD-Audio player...

With someone's recommendation here.. I was able to find a Cambridge DVD89 player that fit within my budget. Plays SACD and DVD-Audio.. which is a bonus over the non dual format ones.
I always know I can count on your all for helping a brother out.

Well, damn... Maybe I'll throw the Panny S97 up as a karma and let someone else enjoy it.

well, i landed a inexpensive Cambridge Audio DVD89 SACD/DVD-A/DVD/CD player.. got a good deal even for Ebay

the LCD display is a little wonky... but I can live with that or get it fixed if I want to.
anyhow... dang this little thing is nice.. understated front faceplate.. all black and very minimalistic, which is nice though. metal not plastic too.
plays everything I throw at it. with the exception of MP3's.. but that's fine.. as I don't ever burn MP3's for home listening.
Currently listening to The Fixx - 1011 Woodland which is a DVD-A disc. it's suppose to be a live concert.. but there isn't any audience.. so maybe it's a live studio album instead?
Either way.. I've owned this disc for several years and i'm very familiar with it... that was till tonight. This Cambridge player sure has wonderful sonics, albiet slightly forward on the highs.. on occasion it can be a bit much. Overall, though I can overlook that on most recordings.. but the rest of the audio spectrum is very well balanced and in the right places.
Someone had mentioned this "sleeper" for it's superior audio capabilities.... and I have to agree for what I paid for it.. and the abilities of the unit.. it was a real good buy.
If anyone is looking for one of them.. I suggest seeking one out.
can anyone confirm or deny that Cambridge Audio products are built by Oppo? I read that somewhere online.. but can't find the article anymore.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
