Speaker placement????
Posted on AVS,
I've got 70 seriesII, CS2 and 30's currently in surround. I'll be adding 40's.
Question; leave 30's in surround and place 40's in wide position? Or move 30's to wide and place 40's in surround?
My thought is the surrounds get more activity than the wides so using the 40's there would be more efficient.
Thoughts and opinions?

I'd grab some banana plugs from monoprice and make it easy to try it out both ways. I'd search AVS or here under movies and try to find specific titles that are know to take advantage of wide position. I have the option for front height or rear surround w/ my Denon but haven't hooked up any extra speakers to try it. With the plugs and good source material it should be easy enough to try both options, but you will probably have to rerun setup for the avr in each scenerio.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer. -

Thanks handy man from TN. My Onk 807 lets me choose from height, wide or rear surrounds. I haven't tried the rears but I've tested from the height vs wide and found I get more activity from wides.
I don't expect a lot from the rears but I get quite a bit from the surrounds. In fact, I have my surrounds positioned in the rear and have been getting great results with that.
I reckon you right though, nothing like good 'ol trial and error

We need to get on the same page with terminology. The speakers to your side are the surrounds. These will get more "info" than any of the others. Use the 40s here. The rears are the ones directly behind you. These don't get much "info". Use the 30s here. As for "wides" and "heights", Use Monitor 30s for these. These are just processed channels from the AVR.Things are more like they are now than they ever will be!

Thank you, this is exactly where I said my 30's were and was asking if the 40's would be a better choice. As for "wides" and "heights", Use Monitor 30s for these. These are just processed channels from the AVR.
Thank you again, this answered the second part of my question.Set up: 11.2 HT + 2ch

If the room is big and/or you have the room and like things loud, the Monitor 40s would be good in the rear too.Things are more like they are now than they ever will be!
