My local sales guy told me that his Polk Rep came to his store, dressed like a lumberjack, with a chain saw and cut a speaker in half to show everyone that they were real wood.

    The black is *REAL* oak.

If you're talking about the CSi5 and CSi3 that is.....

Okay, I have to jump in here. I was in Crutchfeild's yesterday and they had quite a few damaged RTi70's. If that is real wood (black or cherry) I do not know how they could slice it that thin. It was thinner than a dollar bill! The cabinets were made of MDF.

I really do not care what the covering is, it don't make them sound any better... I sure do like my 38's, 70's and 40.

After reading this entire thread, I was wondering where the Polk factory is located, and do they operate tours of the assembly line?

I have a pair of RTi38's in the "cherry colored" finish. Mine appear to be real wood, and it does appear to be Oak. I always deduced from Polk's advertising that the wood was always Oak, but it was available in Black or Cherry finish.

That is one reason I bought the Polks, aside from the fact that I think that they sound good. No one else, for the same money, seems to use anything but a photographed vinyl covering on their speakers, and it does look fake.

It's kind of like the difference in looking at a hardwood floor that has real wood for the top layer versus one that has a "faux" wood finish. I can look at either and in about 2 seconds see the difference. I don't like the simulated ones.

OK, I'm convinced that Polk loudspeakers are made from real wood. After all, they are described that way in the product listing, and I have no reason not to believe Polk Audio. So my question is, how about Orange Glo to clean the surface of Polk speakers. I've used it a couple of times and I am very happy with the results. And there is no wax build up. What do other people around this forum use to clean their speakers?
