I have blown out the tweeters in my 1998 RT 55 I Shelf Speakers. Both speakers have burnt cones and they obviously don't work anymore and I am trying to figure out how to repair them. The silver dome cones are burnt and I reckin' the tweeter / speaker is blow too...

I need advice on how to replace the cones ... and where would I look to buy the tweeter for them.

Hank

The original tweeters are no longer available...even from Polk Audio. Polk sold a replacement silk dome (vs the original tri-lam)...but I'm not sure if it is still available. I actually like it better than the original. Call Polk CS and they can tell you what they have and the price. As I recall, even with a Club Polk Discount they were still around $70 each. They are nice speakers and well worth fixing...but if you need both tweeters, you are getting near the point where you might be better off looking for a nice used pair. You see them from time to time in the $200 range in very good shape.

they don't make that tweet anymore? darn, those are nice speakers. beefy bookshelves the way God intended.

definitely call customer service, maybe they can recommend an aftermarket tweet that is closest to the parameters of the original? They'll have the best info either way....helpful bunch of folks.
