I currently have a Sony STR-DG600 receiver and have an opportunity to get a Denon AVR 1908 for a pretty reasonable price. Any thoughts on the 1908? Anyone have or had one?? The 1908 does have HDMI inputs/output that I am interested in. I am not sure about the sound quality and power.

Thanks for any feedback.

Up your budget and get a Denon that has preouts for future upgrades as well as all the rest of the bells and whistles you want it to have.

What she said......if you have a receiver without the 5.1 pre outs, then you will not be able to add an amp for more power down the line. HDMI and preouts are the two you should place at the top of the list when searching for a receiver.

I agree with Cathy and Tony above. Neither of your choices has pre-outs. But on a strict comparison..the Sony is NOT a High Current amp construction. The Denon is definitely the superior AVR of those two. But you'd have to step up a couple of models to get pre-outs on the Denon. I'm not sure ANY Sonys have them under their top of the line ES series?

    Good Luck

If you were trying to improve from the Sony AVR how much would the upgrade to the Denon be worth? I can get the 1908 for not much money. Will I notice a measurable difference in the sound quality of my M50's???
