    Heh. There's irony in there.

The last Indiana Gathering i went to, we all realized at the same time (though we didn't tell john, because we didn't want to make him cry ) that the Sunfire Grand Signature that he brought sounded EXACTLY LIKE THE XPA-2.

I would bet good money that the two amps are more than just kissing cousins.

They might be voiced to sound similar but they are two completely different amps.

It's because my Denon AVR-4810ci would run extremely hot with all 7 lsi speakers plugging in to it directly as well as the audio output then became a bit muddy to my ears.

Edit: rereading a few more comments after yours, I think you were asking me why I chose Emotiva instead of other amps for my lsi speakers. Well, at first it was because of pricing. I purchased the XPA-5 to test it out, assuring myself I could return it during the 30-day trial period. Once I plugged it in, sound output really pleased my ears, especiall the smoothness of the lsi speakers when playing concert BD's such as Andrea Bocelli's Vivere & Chris Botti - In Boston. Just a few months ago I discovered my uncle who lived nearby owned a Sunfire Cinema Grand Signature 5-channel. I was able to ask him to bring it to my place so that I can try it out. Just my opinion, but the output is just as good as the XPA-5, therefore I did not hesitate to proclaim my love for my XPA-5 & XPA-2. That's my 2cents.

Fair enough and thanks for your explanation.

I must admit the Signature 600x2 did not sound as good at Nik's as it did in my home on the SDA's. It had just come back to me after a complete overhaul and was not fully broken in by then either. After spending a bit more time with it at home, I did find it to be a bit flat sounding however, but I would never toss the Signature Sunfire amps in the same mix as an Emo. Another factor to me was that my LSi's, to my ear just don't have the same warmth and imaging capabilities that the big Polks have, and the pairing of the Stereo Sig with them was what led me to place the LSi's in their current surround positions.

What was your rational in your choice to power them?

This was obviously not being asked of me, but I'll answer too in hopes of helping the OP.

I was driving my all LSi HT with an H/K7300 and an Adcom GFA-6000. No complaints with the sound and I wasn't looking to upgrade, but someone put a local Craigslist ad on the "Deal of the Day" thread and I had to bite.

I'm sure it was price Jess. Kinda like buying a Corvette and putting fiberglass tires on it.

Yes. Price was the reason for me. I got a two month old XPA-5 and LMC-1 plus a Panamax power conditioner for less than a new XPA-5. I was obviously able to look before buying and I didn't have to pay shipping since it was local. In addition, both warranties were transferred with no problem. I had to use the warranty to repair an issue with the LMC-1 and the CS was outstanding.

I trust the opinions of many people here who have heard a variety of amps and I have no doubt there are better amps out there for the price of a new XPA-5. That being said, I've been very happy with mine. I definitely would not describe the Emo/LSi combo as bright.

One of these days I'll probably upgrade, but I'm pretty happy with the HT for now. Most of my money has gone towards the 2-channel system lately.

That was a prototype Carver that was abandoned when Carver Corp failed. It was then picked up by the guy that started Emo....
