Looking for users out there of the EMOTIVA XPA-5 amp. Does anyone have experience with this amp? Would you recommend hooking it up with the DENON AVR 3311CI receiver? I am setting up a home system with LSI 15, LSI 9 and LSI center and want have a 5 channel amp to power them. I am not sure what to invest the best value in; like a ROTEL, ADCOM or NAD amp - a lot more money. The Emotiva is priced at $700. It seems like a good deal.

Thanks for any info : )

I have posted about buying this amp also. If you search this and other internet forums, I found that this topic ( Emotiva Xpa) has been beaten like a drum. I have the same speakers as yourself, furthermore I have also been on the Emotiva website with the XPA5 in my "cart" and something tells me to wait each time....The senior members here are quite wise and most advise on going a different route for amplification. Probably the only reason I even consider Emotiva and the XPA5 for that matter, is the 5 Year warranty and the fact that it is in my budget. Thats why I keep a look out on C.L, Fleabay, and Audiogon hoping for that good buy on a Parasound, Rotel, or other proven amp. We'll see what happens! F.Y.I I have read that Emo Xpa5 users say this amp makes their LSi's quite "bright"

well coming from someone who has everything youve listed except i have lsi25...i can tell you that its a fantastic setup for music or movies..i used to run a rotel rmb-1075 and it was great until i really wanted to turn it up and then it ran out of steam...the emotiva took care of all of it and sounded equal to the rotel...maybe a bit of improved top end...i a/b'd these two amps for 4 hours and came to this conclusion

as far as the brightness is concerned all i had to do was drop the 4k in my denon and all is well

while is not the only amp out there...it is a strong contender and the price point can not be beat.

I owned the Rotel 1075 and 1095 and thought the 1095 was a big improvement. So Rotel would be my choice.

THANK YOU to all your responses! I appreciate the effort in sharing your knowledge / experience.

Question: Does the LSi25's sound AWESOME compared to the 15's? Are they worth the extra $? Do the 15's put out a lot of low bass? I also have a PWPRO500 Sub. My room is about 15x20.

Also, are the other amps that cost 1200+ worth spending over the 700 for the Emotiva? Just looking for the BEST value and sound within some what of a budget.

Thanks for helping me in this learning curve!

I have the Lsi15's, and I use a sub to handle my lows. If Im not mistaken the Lsi25's are a bit taller and have a built in amp, but if you are thinkng about buying external amplfication you wont need it. I prefer to let my sub handle the bass.

That's kinda funny since I had a Parasound that hummed and a Rotel hissed.I do still think they are good amps, no better than Emotiva.

I'm using both XPA-5 & XPA2. Neither was "quite 'bright'" for my lsi's 5.1 or 2-channel sets  I've been very happy with that investment. Of course the brightness might be an issue if you are using a not-good-enough audio processor.

Guess I will find out about the Emotiva & Lsi series speakers since I ordered my Xpa5 today. I let you know if they sound bright to me. We are running the same speakers and all just different cables.

well i can tell you with every movie i watch im really loving the emotiva...although i do feel its the added power rather than the amp that it making things sound so much smoother and more dynamic...the rmb 1075 just gave out during very dynamic scenes and loud music..
i wonder how the 1095 would do but have no plans to find out, the xpa 5 lacks in no department

The "in your face" characteristics of the XPA amps make them something that i might consider for movies on a budget (though the Rotel for sale in the market here offers a better value imo), but i wouldn't be caught dead trying an XPA in my 2-channel again.

The XPAs are good if you want to be literally assaulted and molested by your music. If that's your "thing," then i'm not one to judge. It's just not my "thing."

If it's pretty blue lights you seek, look at Anthem.

i will agree with you that at first its a bit "rip off your eyebrows-ish" when listening to music at a decent volume....but like i said, a little 4k reduction took care of all of that

Tone controls/EQs are bandaids to mask a larger problem in my opinion, but if it works for you, it works for you.

That is a shame I would have suggested Rotel over Emotive. For the money your spending on the Speakers why would you go Emo. Kind of like buying a Ferrari and putting regular in the tank.

+1 to this... tone controls are good for hiding other problems in the system, and nothing else. After hearing what a very good set-up can do without them, I have never used them since.

Emo is fine for intro HT.

I had their stuff for awhile and while it was ok for HT, 2 channel was just not good and blah.

Agree with Ben on how it sounds for 2 channel, not my thing, nor would it ever be again.

and tone controls, yuck. Won't touch it for 2 channel, HT yeah sure, 2 channel leave me alone tone control.

I may have stated my point a little harshly.

As always, consider my statements a matter of personal opinion, and not fact as viewed by whoever may be reading them. Others may have heard the warmth commonly associated with the crooning of an angelic choir. I'm merely saying that i didn't.

It's because my Denon AVR-4810ci would run extremely hot with all 7 lsi speakers plugging in to it directly as well as the audio output then became a bit muddy to my ears.

Edit: rereading a few more comments after yours, I think you were asking me why I chose Emotiva instead of other amps for my lsi speakers. Well, at first it was because of pricing. I purchased the XPA-5 to test it out, assuring myself I could return it during the 30-day trial period. Once I plugged it in, sound output really pleased my ears, especiall the smoothness of the lsi speakers when playing concert BD's such as Andrea Bocelli's Vivere & Chris Botti - In Boston. Just a few months ago I discovered my uncle who lived nearby owned a Sunfire Cinema Grand Signature 5-channel. I was able to ask him to bring it to my place so that I can try it out. Just my opinion, but the output is just as good as the XPA-5, therefore I did not hesitate to proclaim my love for my XPA-5 & XPA-2. That's my 2cents.

    yeahhhhh....

thats because the AVR is not ment to see a 4 ohm load so I could see how hooking up an amp that can do 4 ohms would be an improvment.

    Heh. There's irony in there.

The last Indiana Gathering i went to, we all realized at the same time (though we didn't tell john, because we didn't want to make him cry ) that the Sunfire Grand Signature that he brought sounded EXACTLY LIKE THE XPA-2.

I would bet good money that the two amps are more than just kissing cousins.
