Swithcing over from Linksys WRT54GS to Apple Airport Extreme

Well, after 5 years of pretty reliable connectivity, with the last 2 years of having to reset and power-cycling often, I am trying Airport Extreme. Most feedback has been pretty positive on its reliability, albeit on the pricy side.

Any thoughts on its streaming reliability? It will be supporting 1 WIN7 desktop, 2 WIN7 laptops, 1 macbook Pro, 2 iPhones, 1 DirecTV HD-DVR, XBOX360, Oppop 83, iTunes Airport Express, along with a Linksys modded-client.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

    I've been running one now for several months without a problem of any kind. Using PC not Mac.

    I recently upgraded my trusty Linksys WRT54GS to a Netgear dual-range N band wireless router and I am getting much better performance with streaming video to my Roku boxes and audio to my SqueezeBox Touch(s). I'll get a nother slight bump in performance when I get time to install my new cable modem that can take advantage of the changes in my cable internet feed.

    Airport Extreme has a solid performance. I have used it for more than a year without any problems. Stay away from the Airport Express. Already replaced two times on warranty. They just die!

    interesting note on Airport Express. Mine has been online with no problem for a year now, to stream iTunes from my MBP to the Pre/Pro.

    I have owned a few Airport express units and I don't use them anymore. I never had any issues with them. I use to use them to extend my wireless network hard wired as a WAP and they work excellent and give good coverage. I use a Apple Airport Extreme and it's the best router I have ever owned. Never once had to power cycle it. It's been going for over 3 years.

    In the field I use them all the time. They are trusty and steam perfectly. They are designed for high network traffic. They also have a "Guest Network" which is very nice for when people come over and they want to use your network , this gives them a route without having to see anything one your local network.

    They are not priced high , actually they are a deal. Most good routers start over 100 bucks and get better as you go up. You get exactly what you pay for in routers.

    I would say whatever router you get make sure it's compatible with one of the third party firmwares like dd-wrt or tomato. I'd also like to add that the linksys routers mentioned in this tread with dd-wrt installed are amazing, I have two and I use them as bridges no streaming or gaming problems what so ever.

    I do have one Linksys dd-wrt repeater that I set up in the entertainment center area for firmware update, and working fine currently. Do I expect problem when I replace the main WRT54GS with Airport Extreme?

    I doubt you 'll have an issue. I currently use 5 DD-WRT WRT54Gs V2,3,4 in my house. I also have a netgear-n 270mbps attached to the main router for high(er) speed access as well.

    All running dd-wrt and bridged if necessary. Great stuff...very stable.
