anyone use an amp with Polk Monitors?

I don't have time to proof read all this so if anything is way out of wack, just ask.

These are my opinions and facts gathered & I know not everyone will agree with them.

The 1900 has smaller capacitors so it'll be a little less power than the 3900 but not much
RX-V 3900 uses two 18000 uF capacitors

RX-V 1900 uses two 12000 uF capacitors
Being they weigh nearly the same not much power difference.

Your 608 is kinda new? so might not find a review yet with bench tests for the audio end.

That's a great deal I paid 400 with a free Ipod doc U can get from amazon for 40.00. The 765 passes audio and video in stand by, like the 3900 does, the 1900 will not it has to be on.

If you are considering electric bills the 3900 in stand by draws 45 watts of electricity per hour about 12 cents a day.
To shut it off you have it in an audio mode only, then it 'll shut off. If it's in an audio video mode like cable tv i when U power off it'll go in to standby. It's just what it does.

AS for Yamaha on the bright side I've listened to Pioneer top of the line Elite at Best Buy and it didn't thrill me but it's in a room with acoustic wall panels and I bought the Z-11 and 3900 for the great price and reputation with out listening first, I'm very satisfied. I read about Yamaha's at AVS for 6 months before even choosing the first lower end Yamaha 665. I started with 2 Pioneer VSX 917's and then 2- Yamaha RXV 665, rxv 765 at 6 lbs more than a 665, the 765 has an audio quality advantage, I eded up with a 3900, a z11 and a 765. The 608 is new so if it has preouts U could just amp that.

In the AVS forums you'll find a lot of happy Yamaha owners more so on average than all other brands, just the way it is now and that could change in the future.


This is my personal take on the manufacturers I looked at.

Sony's are grossly under powered on the bench tests even their high end ES series.

Denon to many issues.

Onkyo too many issues with HDMI boards dead units unless there will be less with the 8 series as in 608 series. even their high end avr's scored poorly when it had to run a 7 channel set up at 30 to 35 WPC from a 40 to 50 LB receiver, somethings really wrong their. But peeps will tell U In a home theater set up it's not hitting all 7 at once, but sometimes they do. But if U use a 7 channel enhancer mode or 7 channel stereo mode you have to have the power to drive all seven so the 3900 has

I'm glad you posted the bench tests because it makes my point in another thread on bi-amping with a receiver. Taking the 608 as an example, if you used the 6th and 7th channel to bi-amp your fronts,your sending a tad less than 62 watts to that speaker. If you just ran it in 5.1, your sending 82 watts to that speaker. Sorry to get off track, carry on gents.

Yea my 765 is in a 5.1 now, it gives the set up that added kick.

My 3900 is in a 7.2 and it kicks it all around, I use a 7.2 cause of a thx neural mode and others that use all 7 instead of dolby digital as 5.2

The Pioneers I heard, top of the line Elite's at Best Buy were in Pure Direct Mode, as in just passing the signal when I listened to every set of speakers they had for sale, that was after I had moved up to the M70's and my 70's won hands down except for the Vienna's and I'm not a fan of Klipsch horns or anything they had for sale at the time.
This Best Buy will not put Polk's TSI line in the Magnolia room, sales man told me they tried that and they were not good at all, What load of Bullcrap.
If I want the horn shrill high's sound I have 4 Sansui 5500"s, that pack a horn, a tweeter, 3 mids and a 15" woofer in real wood, that's when they made them awesome at an affordable price.

That Yamaha crispness or clarity, I hear, is why I run them flat on the EQ, so I hear the audio recordings as close as they were intended to be played back.
