For sale: my 2 year old (arrived Labor day 2008) Emotiva XPA-5 amp. 3 years of transferrable warranty remaining.

$550 + shipping to 48. MO or Paypal add 3.09% Shipping FedEx Ground seems to run $60--$80. Emo charges only $25 but I bet they get some sort of volume discount. Shipped in original double boxes.

5 channels, 200 wpc into 8 ohms, 300 into 4. Excellent IMO for home theater. Mediocre for music, especially 2-channel music, more especially for non-electronic stuff, symphonies, chamber music, vocals, etc. Actually not bad for loud electronic stuff. "Mediocre" in this context means "much less good than my W4S ST 500".

Caveats: (a) Amp weighs 75 pounds, 90 boxed. I shall have to enlist the aid of a neighbor to carry the box out to my car; this may cause some delay in shipment. I'll keep any buyer well posted.

(b) It's not much to look at. In standby mode ugly, menacing, eye-of-Sauron-like. Pics below; decide for youself. I alway thought of the amp's ugliness as a point in its favor; at $800 new Emotiva had to have cut some corners and better to skimp on appearance than on internals. But if you like to gaze into your amp's soul this may not be the amp for you.

(c) Amp has a couple of small (matchhead sized) flaws on top, white spots where the black matte finish, whatever it is, didn't take. This always seemed totally minor to me, especially since the amp's looks are not its strong suit anyway, but others may disagree.
I'm sorry the white specks don't show in any of the pictures I took; should have been more careful but there's no way I'm going to unbox this thing now.

(d) The first time I turned it on, it went immediately into fault mode with blinking red lights where blue ought to be. The problem turned out to be buildup of static electricity caused by the cellophane bag in which the amp was packed. That bag is the only shipping bag I have, so I reused it. Letting the amp stand overnight will probably dissipate the static charge; a quicker solution (which I employed 2 years ago) is to play a hairdryer for a few minutes on the cooling vents at the back of the amp.

Thanks for looking.

    Thanks for plug, man.

Asheville restaurant scene is pretty great, considering size of town. Must admit however I prefer mellow slabs of beef. :)

Also true. My best freind lives in Hendersonville so I am out there often. There was an awesome mexican place I had out there too but the name escapes me. Was decorated all crazy like and only had room for like 30 people and was near the circle.....

Hopefully going out there soon (Novemberish) so if it hasnt sold at that point perhaps we will talk.

I doubt however that it will take that long on something this good

Married on Saturday---sorry I missed that the first time. I must be going blind or senile.

Isn't there some sort of bridal registry you could add the amp to? Revise the prenup perhaps. Anyway congratulations and good luck. Maybe your friends without telling you will buy the amp and tie it to your bumper when you drive away.

90 pounds boxed. I'll keep playing with it, there may be a cheaper option.

FedEx quoted $84.75 to SoCal from NC. That does seem high, doesn't it?

no that would seem right, when I shipped out the XPA-1s from WI to MO it cost me like 65-70 bucks a peice and those are around 95lbs a pop.

Yes, I've been feeding the FedEx calculator additional information---size of box and whatnot---and the quote goes up. Damn.

be careful as well. Depending on how strict the place is you take it, it could get slapped with an additional handling fee due to the weight. I know when the guy shipped the XPA-1's to me he got stuck with that because the desk person couldn't lift it by themselves....

Thanks for tip. Do you happen to recall how big the additional handling fee was? I can't lift this thing solo and wouldn't expect a clerk to do so. The guy who delivered it was wearing a big elastic support girdle.

Lol....I had a dream this afternoon......

Trust me if I had my way the registry would have looked like this:

    Panasonic TC-P54G25
    Polk LSi9's or LSi15's
    Polk LSiC
Emotiva XPA-5 (to drive the Monitor 60's and Monitor 40's)
Emotiva XPA-3 (to drive the LSI fronts)

We dont need no stinking new pots and pans....we need AUDIO GEAR!!!!!

Ummm well the guy sent the amp from IN to WI. The first which he did all online and dropped it off was around 80 bucks I think. The other was around 124 when they weighed it and charged him extra for the handling. so I would figure in that range possible. Best bet is to call them about it.

Looks like about $65 to Springfield MA, 01101.

I'm NC employee and am pretty sure my employers don't want to subsidize my amp shipments. :)

Tool, could you be a little more precise? Splitting which charges with whom? Are you interested in buying the amp yourself, or are you acting as someone's agent?

EDIT Or were you, perhaps...joking? I'm getting confused.

    HAHA....he did mention that...true

Dr Ray Stantz: I think we'd better split up.
    Dr. Egon Spengler: Good idea.
Dr. Peter Venkman: Yeah... we can do more damage that way.

I have a message into the bank...it should only be a matter of time before we hear back on whether i have to move out OR XPA-5 is moving in. We just bought another bedroom set so it would at least have a nice place to rest it's tired head :p

I'm told that i am allowed to buy one or the other....and since i can't run the Emo without a new AVR, i'm kinda up $hit$ creek here!:(

I guess im AVR only shopping for the time being....maybe my allowance will be upped if i continue to mow the lawn and paint the rooms like a good little dooby.

I appreciate your patience! Every where i've read says this is a wonderful piece of hardware....GL with the sale.
Hold on to it for me until X-mas :D

As a side note......606......i hate you!
