    So i got my dodd elp today!! surprisingly good packing job... but alas no tubes were included in the box like he said there were, no power cord either (but i have a spare pangea lying around) :(

    I have to find that dodd tube thread to find some to buy to plug in now, hahaha still a good day!

    Since I don't have any documentation.. Am I correct in assuming both tube spots are for 6DJ8 tubes? One isn't sneakily a Rectifier slot or something is it?

    Does anyone have a .pdf manual or something for this elp by chance?

    also, since I need to purchase some tubes before I can experience this exciting pre... will someone recommend a decent place to buy tubes online? I was going to order some from audiotubes.com.. Anyone else have sites they like (besides ebay?)

    you might wanna' start gently,,post a WTB here for some tubes,, I have never seen a manual,, it's very easy,,turn on your pre(after you get some tubes),let her warm up for say,, 15 minutes,,Then turn on power amp,,and you are good to go,,power down in the reverse sequence.The ELP,,has on/off,,selector switch,,and volume,,thats it. Now get some tubes and keep us posted. ;)

    hahah, sorry guys. fulltime work + school + golf = busy!

    I tried the EH tubes I have first since I was afraid I wouldn't take the bugle boys out and I wanted to try both...

    I've only listened for about 4 hours total, but I do like the sound.. to me it sounds "airy-er" and more detailed going through the Dodd ELP versus using the Peachtree Nova as a pre.

    I'm liking the sound so far, but I am going to try the bugle boys tomorrow and listen for a longer period.

    More to come for sure.. but i'm obviously happy so far

    Well, detail is probably the wrong word.. but the instruments/sounds seem separated from each other better.

    Tha Amperex will rock your world on the Dodd. Mine loved the Orange Globe "A" frames with my SRS II best, Klipsch horn speakers loved the Telefunkens and Siemens. That Dodd is unbeatable for the buck and tubes are in excess here on the forum.
    Like way too many others......I have regrets in selling mine. Stupid on my part. Once gone they're difficult to get back.

    i'm excited to try a few different tubes.. i had to over-pay a bit for my Dodd, but they are getting scarce and i really don't think i'll be giving it up anytime soon..

    So I threw in the Amperex's and they were predictably a lot different than the EH's... The bass was far more accurate than I was thinking it would be (and sounded awesome!).. the airy-ness was still there as well.

    After listening to the amperex's for several hours (listening to rock and indie), I was worried the warm-ness of the midrange would get to me.. It sounded good, but I am curious if I would prefer a slightly less "warm" tube (i know warm-ness if the main point of tubes).

    The Dodd ELP with the Amperex's has my setup sounding the best it ever has, so i'm very satisfied with the Dodd, predictably.

    Any suggestions to try and take a tiny bit of edge off of the warmth? (I have Ben's Silver IC's connecting all my components, for those curious)

    Thanks again to George for helping me nab this ELP and to Starkiller and headrott for setting me up with some tubes!!

    Sometimes silver cables can be "revealing",,a good cable to look in to would be MIT--Terminator 2 comes to mind--grey cable/box and they can be had used for not much money. Good luck-keep us posted.

    I've got one pair of the MIT Term 2's.. I liked the silver's before the Dodd. I was curious about adding it to the mix to see what happened... I'll have to try that
