First question:

How much does/did the CS245 retail for? Or how much is it worth?

I can either keep my current center, a Polk CS245 I got really cheap or switch it for my friend's Axiom VP-50.

My mains are currently Axiom M22ti and I'd like to keep it all axiom of course, but not if the VP-50 gets owned by the CS245.

The key to the front stage is matching. Even if the Polk "owns" the Axiom, if it doesn't match/blend with your mains it won't sound right and you won't be happy. Best bet is to A/B if you can and let your ears decide.

MSRP on the 245 was $250

$299 CN (see link) I don't know what a reasonable resale $$ would be. Probably $75-100 or so. Alot of great deals now on new units being closed out to make room for the latest models which won't help you much.

That is the CS245, not CS245i. They used black woofers instead of blue. Looks like a Polymer tweeter instead of a tri lam to. That polymer, IMO is my favorite Polk tweeter.

The Polk will rule the Axiom, just by specs it looks like it will. I would take a 20 pounds speaker over an 8 pounder anyday. Just seems better quality materials and parts were used in the Polk which would mean better quality sound.

I totally disagree that it has to match to sound good. I am running a Klipsch center and I wouldnt change my HT system any...
    - Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

I'll take it a step further by saying maybe you don't need a center speaker at all. Most of the time (not always) channeling the center dialog through the fronts might be a better option. I found this true in my setup.
