Outlaw 970 Preamp, Outlaw 7700 Amp, Velodyne SMS-1, Oppo BDP-83,

Praedet,
It will perform fine if you want to use it JUST for audio. Here is the extracted review from the above link that I have included in post #1:With regard to audio playback, this player performed equally well with almost all of the different disc formats currently available. The DV-37 encountered no difficulties reading the soundtracks of either the Dolby Digital or DTS DVDs I tested. Music CDs, whether the standard two-channel stereo or the multi-channel, 96 kHz/24 bit variety, were also read with ease. Perhaps most impressively, though, was the player’s ability to read CD-R tracks. Having burned some music onto a CD-R disc through the use of my personal computer, nary a hiss, pop, or crackle was heard when I played the disc back in the DV-37. Overall, clean vocals, good channel separation, and an extended dynamic range characterized playback for each of these various disc formats. About the only things this player couldn’t do in terms of audio performance was to play DVD-Audio and SACD discs. (Note: For those audiophiles out there who require DVD-Audio playback, Pioneer does offer three models with this feature, the DV-38A ($2,000.00), DV-47A ($1,200.00) and the DV-AX10 ($5,999.00). Additionally, the DV-47A and DV-AX10 also support SACD playback).
Conclusion
As DVDs have indeed become mainstream, the appropriate question to ask is not whether you should purchase a DVD player (as the answer is obviously ‘yes’), but rather which particular player should you purchase. The Pioneer Elite DV-37 is a top-notch DVD player. It is well built, feature-laden, and contains all of the audio/video connections needed for today’s state-of-the-art home theater systems. Plus, if you have a monitor that is capable of displaying progressive scan technology, the DV-37 will unlock a picture quality that is unparalleled by every consumer video format short of HDTV. Backed by Pioneer’s two- year parts and labor warranty, the DV-37 is worth every penny of its $1,000.00 M.S.R.P.

How would the DV-37 perform as a CDP?
Usually I do not comment in for sale threads unless I am thinking about buying, but I did have this same unit in the past and it made a great CD player!
$100 shipped is a steal. -
Even after these two are sold, I still have 3 DVD capable players, way too many..

Well I love my 47ai for DVD play back but if I would move my 2 channel to another room wanted a cdp that I could move with it and keep the 47 still in my HT for DVD playback until I upgrade PJ's. So for the price I can't really go wrong. -
Got it. Thanks Chris.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Congrads on the sale , what are you replacing them with? Anyway I remember the DV37 and it's big brother DV38a. They are 2 of the very best dvd players of their time not to mention 2 of the very best sound dvd as a cd player of their time. I was shocked when many high end guys would buy one or the other and only use it as a cd player. I'm talking 50k and up 2 channel rigs. I was blown away. No video at all in the room. But after a few listenings you start to understand how damn good they where.
I would like to build a Pioneer ELite Museum to display all their wonderful gear over the years. I feel exaclty as you do man , I so love Pioneer ELite gear . I can't ever imagine not owning at least 1 or more. I've had Pioneer Elite gear since the 80's and will continue to into the future. I also say 'BRING BACK THE ELITE DISPLAYS".Dan

Thanks Dan. I am looking at Modwright Oppo BDP-83.
PE is great indeed. What was those talks about PE brand going away in the future? It's a shame if it is true.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
They are still making products as far as I know. I would be heart broken if they go belly up. They lost the display and better not anything else. I wish they built a Blu ray with SACD and DVD audio inside. It would be cool to have Netflix as well. I had to run 2 players in the Ps3 and the Pioneer ELite dv58av to get my needs. Now I just run the Cambridge Audio Azur 650 BD which I love. You should check it out , I picked it over the Oppo as the Oppo was on top of my very short list of stand alone players. With your new preamp you do not need a Modded Oppo player for anything. The Cambridge or the standard Oppo will give you everything you need. HDMI will carry everything man. No need to waste the extra money on mods. Thanks Dan. I am looking at Modwright Oppo BDP-83.
