I'm just curious what upgrade paths exist from the 1C. I love the 1C's and am not in a hurry to move to another set of SDA's but if something became available locally, I wouldn't really know what models would be 'better' and what I should stay away from (if any).

An upgrade would be to the SRS 2.3tl or SRS 1.2tl. I personally like the SRS 2's that are bi-ampable. They sound like the 1C's only with a bigger soundstage and deeper bass. Beside the larger SRS models I think any other SDA would be a step backwards. I know a few will chime in on the modded versions of the SDA 2B's but I am only talking about stock speakers. You can also improve the 1C's with updated tweets so I think that arguement might be a wash. For a small to average room the 1C's are hard to beat.

Currently have a 19'X18' room so I could probably handle the bigger speakers if I found them. Saw the 2.3TL's in the FS thread and it made me start thinking.....

If you have not done the upgrades to your crossovers and put in the RDO-194's, I say put your cash there IMHO.

With that said, if a set of 2.3tl's became available locally and the price was right I say jump on them and keep them both..

But really put your money in what you have, if not done spike them and dynamat the drivers and passive's as well.

    Peace,

    Larry.

+1, in your size room the 1C should be perfect, XO and tweeter upgrade and some myesound spikes will take your 1Cs to a new level. Through some glass in the mix and you will be very happy.

I would avoid the 1.2TL and enjoy the smaller siblings. The 2.3TL is the gem of the entire lineup.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Agreed, but I would have to add the 1C's to the list as well.

I've got them on 1" granite slabs at the moment. Would the spikes be a noticeable difference from having them on granite? Just can't seem to get the bass right on them. I do hear more bass back in a corner entry to the room where a small 4' x 4' area is 'boxed' in before you get out into the openness of the room. Bass seems to collect there.

I'd look at either the SRS 2 or the 2.3tl's.....

A stock pair of either is better than a hotrodded pair of 1C's

I find my stock 1C's to sound just as good as a stock set of 2.3tl's, they both kick **** IMHO.

I have not had my ears on a set of SRS2's

My buddy has the 1C's and the 2.3TL's. In his room upstairs the 2.3's didn't do it. They need a large room to run right.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I personally like the 3.1TLs more than the 1Cs. There seems to be better (focused) SDA effect and larger stereo imaging than the 1Cs. But, I am comparing a stock 1C to the modded 3.1TL which is not a fair comparison. Also, the last time I heard the 1Cs was about 7 years ago.

My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Interesting. I'm really curious what the difference is. Can you explain more why there would be a difference since in both cases the speakers are on a solid foundation off of the carpet?

I too have the 2.3's and they are sitting on carpet but do not have the spikes you mentioned. Are they necessary and if so where can they be purchased? Also do these need to be attached to the wall? I have had these since 1991 with no prblems.

I'd go with the 2.3TLs. My room is smaller than yours but I have hot rodded 1.2TLs and I love them but I need some room treatment. I've heard hot rodded 2.3TLs and they are awesome.

Jesse's link above is not working so here is the link directly to MYE-sound, best spikes in the business.

Sounds like room treatment should be first on your list of upgrades.
