FOr anyone interested, I got an email back from Ian Grant regarding the B-283 GT
That is one we worked on a while ago, we have another one that Jungson is building for us too, but that won't be out for quite a while, probably next year. Our B-283 GT is designed more for higher end systems, where the standard is better suited to mid-fi or vintage systems. As I say on our B-283 product page, i wouldn't suggest using the B-283 on a 10K system, so we designed a couple for high-end systems. The standard B-283 will still likely sound better than the GT version on 'affordable' systems. Yaqin can sell their version where they see fit, we can sell ours where we see fit. Ours is tweaked to take the Treasure CV-181 tubes, which won't even fit in the CD-3, let alone work. Our price will be a bit higher, again because pay more for our units, then we legally import them into NA and pay our duties and taxes, then provide a real warranty. I'm hoping to have our product info up in a few weeks at which time more info will be available. The target market will use a high-grade power cables, high-grade interconnect cables, and expensive tubes, standard B-283 users will continue to enjoy the B-283 and wisely spend their money on more music :)

We will always have the standard B-283, it is just too cool.

The main benefit of the 6SN7 tube is that it is likely the most popular tube out there and there are very expensive versions of them, many which won't fit or work in the CD-3.

    Cheers,
    Ian

I guess I will just have to go with/ start with the B-283. I appreciate the level of CS Ian is willing to go to and the 30 day warranty, for the added $30 or so it will cost me. Also having a Silver faceplate will look better when I "listen with my eyes" as someone said..LOL Once I have it burned in, hopefully I and compare it with someone's Cd-2 and I will report my actually experience when comparing the 'tighter' tech specs. I hope to have it and have it burned in for the NW-GTG in Feb.

Ben, are our tubes here yet???....j/k :D

Do you have the Seller saved? That sounds like a great deal.

I think it got buried in other comments, but how long does a pair of tubes last?

I don't have the seller saved in my computer or anything, but I still have the box at home they were shipped in and will get the seller info that way. I'll post the info when I find it. I bought them back in September, so the seller info is not that fresh in my mind right now.

    Assuming they are B&K's ST-140M
Are they the 150wpc ('88-'93) versions or the 170wpc ('00-'02)??
The way You can tell, besides if the seller lists the specs (at least by the comparision sheet specs) is that the earlier version does not have the line level adjustment on the back. They both had an option for balanced inputs, and of course if they have balanced inputs, they don't have line level adjustments anyway (on the later, higher power version)

    Where are they? (the amps)

    You like NIN, right?

They're the earlier versions with no balanced inputs if i remember correctly.

I'm not huge into NIN or anything, no, but i do like the music.

The amps are on Ebay, they were posted on NC Raleigh CL previously in the Deals of the Day thread, but the seller didn't respond to my email, so i found them on ebay. Doubt i'll get them. There's 6 days left, and i won't go much higher than what they're at now.

I found them on eBay too, after searchin around. They don't look too bad. I would wait til the last day and then maybe bump them $10. $150 total inc shipping seems like a pretty good deal on them. Bet alittle 'pig snot' would juice them up :D

What ohm do your Paradigm's run at? The ST140m's go to 225ohm @ 4 ohm. NICE :)

I asked about NIN cuz I got a cd of theirs from GW, and was gunna send it to you, since I thought you were into them. They are too punk for me..hehe

They're 8ohm speakers, but it seems like the more power i can throw at them, the more they like it. I wish i could find the impedence curve of them, i have a feeling they dip fairly low.

Well, right now those B&Ks are at more like $170 shipped. I won't go any higher than $200 total. Not because that's all i feel they're worth, but simply because that's my budget right now. :p

Send it my way anyways. If i don't like it, i'll karma it. I don't actually have any of their cds, and i've heard most of his cds are mastered pretty well, i'd like to investigage. :D

Just so we are clear, I am talking about Nine Inch Nails. It is "The Downward Spiral". The only song I like is the hit "Closer" Although the cover art looks alittle different than this

I will, Ian is out today and is calling me back tomorrow, just to chat about it before I get it.

I gotta hurry, get it, get it burned in, get 'our' tubes burned in, all before the NW-GTG in 3 weeks.......

    Tubes are here!!!!

Military surplus NOS CV1040s. Came in original yellowed sleeve and boxes, kindof nifty.

They seemed a little harder to get into the sockets, but after being patient i got them in.

Right off the bat, i've got slightly more bass, the midrange is seriously warm and sizzle-y, and the highs seem a bit more pronounced. I hope the highs tame back down as they burn in, they sound very good and it's not bright or anything, just a little too much for my tastes.

That said, DMB sounds GREAT, and that was with no burn in. I left the system playing all day while i was at work, so i'm psyched to see what awaits me when i get home.

Even if they don't get any better, they were well worth the admission price. :D

Kcoc, do you want a better review in your other thread later?

Sure, if it will be of benefit to others, especially after they are burned it.
But that is if you have time, of course.
    BTW: PP coming shortly :D
