Nope, most of my gear came pre-scratched as I buy most everything used.

No, scratches dont bother me. The refurbed HK 525 I bought from HK Direct on Ebay was slightly scratched. No biggie.

Now, when the damn HK decides not to work reliably, THATS what sets me off!
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

If I buy it new, it bothers me enough to return it, If it's new, it should look new.

If I buy it used, it would only bother me if the seller stated that it had no scratches. Of course this has happened on every single used purchase I have made, even here in the flea market. :( I no longer buy used.

What really confuses me, is how does the equipment get scratched in the first place? I never had a scratch appear on any of my equipment. Why does every piece of used gear I have seen have them?

I'd imagine mostly its caused either by installation (esp with heavy bulky equipment into tight spaces), by stacking equipment, or perhaps in storage when not in use.

Fingerprints are a non issue with me because I use a Stoner product called "Invisible Glass". Been using it for years and it will help to not cause scratches on LP player covers.

As far as scratches? Hell yes.

Those are precisely the circumstances where I've scratched equipment no matter how careful I am.

If I can't see a scratch at arms length, then it doesn't bother me in the slightest. If its a deep gouge that reveals the bare metal and it can be seen from across the room, then it bothers me. In that case, a sharpie can really help take your mind off things...

Scratches can bring down the resale value, that's what bugs me.
