    I'd probably choose the Oinker. No real particular reason why, other than i haven't messed with Sony receivers outside the ES line, and i'm not personally a fan of the yamaha sound.
    I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

    Probably Onkyo.
    I used to like the older Yamaha receivers, but the newer ones not so much.

    Does the 507 do True HD and hdmi video? The previous models didn't. I own the 565 and enjoy it. Only real issue I have with it is that everything is based on spring clips besides the front 2 speakers :( My onkyo 505 in the bedroom has much better connections. So it's a toss-up IMO

    No 5.1 analog outputs and only 80 watts/channel means you will never be able to add an amp in the future. Reconsider your choices.

    The only advantage I can see with having a receiver that decodes the new audio formats is less cables are involved OR your blu-ray player doesn't have analog outputs. To me anyway,having the analog inputs on a receiver is way more important than Hdmi.

    I must be missing something here. I thought HDMI was the "way to go". I don't understand why I want analog inputs?

    If you can afford it and want the Yammy, go for the 665 has it has more binding posts and has pre outs if you want to ad an amp in the future. all others are good choices as well though.

    right now I have 2 monitor 60's, a CS2 center, and 2 older jbl N24 bookshelf speakers. I have no sub yet. I was looking for something in the $350.00 price range. I'm not looking to blow my doors downs, just for some decent sound.

    Did I not explain that ? Idealy, you would have both, analog inputs and outputs/ HDMI, but if cost is a factor,I'd take the analog outputs, anyday.
    For the simple purpose of being able to add an amp down the road when you upgrade your speakers. Hdmi is the way to go if you want less cables, or your blu-ray player does not have analog outputs. Ya gettin' it yet ? Lets say you buy a receiver without analog inputs, next year you want to move up the speaker chain to the rtia series. You would have to go out and buy a whole new receiver again because those you have chosen are uncapable of powering them properly, and you could not add an amp because...you have no analog outputs. Getting the picture yet? Don't know how better to explain this. I realize funds are limited for you. If you plan on staying on the lower end of the speaker pool for awhile, then this doesn't matter at all.

    HK AVR 254 - less than 350.00 (Probably in the 275-300 range refurbished on HK's official Ebay store) and outshines all of the above...

    Onkyo for sure. I would definitely stay away from Sony or Yammy but that is because I don't like the way they sound at all.

    I think tonyb is trying to say to get a AVR with pre-outs so you can use external amplification should you chose to do so. I would agree on that point.

    An Onkyo TX-SR707 would fit the bill nicely, sound great and serve as a preamp for any future upgrades. However, I think you are going to have to spend about $500. I would save my pennies rather than spring for anything in the $350 range as it will be a dead end purchase that you will take a loss on should you be unhappy. HK's included.

    My newest addition is the Onkyo SR507, it has more than enough capibilities for my current needs. I was very interested in the H/K 354 as well. I would suggest either the onkyo or take a look at the H/K as well.

    I'd get anything before an Onkyo. Customer service is abysmal, and they drop all support for a product once a new line is released.

    I'd go with the Onk first then the Yamaha. But personally I'd pick up a HK which would really outperform the other AVR's in that price range.

    Get anything 7x5 and above for Onkyo; All 70x and above have pre outs; I don't care what anyone says about HDMI 1.4, I'm running my 705 into the ground before I upgrade.

    Keep an eye out, someone just sold an 806 for $300; IMHO, an incredible steal at that price.

    Of the three mentioned the Onkyo is hands down the best. However...let me clarify the "analog" outputs.....

    Most here would tell you to get an AVR with Pre-outs so you can use it as a PRE-amp in the future if you decide you need to add MORE POWER to it. In that case the H/K AVR254 is an excellent choice...

    If that is not a concern for you the 507 is fine. But remember that it can't do more than 5.1 if I'm correct.

    So you'd want to think about the Onkyo 607 if you want 7.1+ capability,

    And if you want pre-outs the 706/707..

    It all depends on your budget, speakers, room size and what you wish to do!

    hhgregg called me last night and agreed to refund my $$$$ for the **** AVR that I bought! :) For those not familiar with hhgregg, it is similar to BEST BUY. www.hhgregg.com

    I now have $203.00 in credit with them and can purchase something better. I'm not sure if their selection of AVR's is different in the store than what they show on-line. I need to go in and look.

    Why do people recommend brands that have their own refurb stores? Am I out to lunch here? I'd rather buy a brand that didn't have a refurb store, having a refurb store to me indicates that their is a history of problems and in order to get rid of their problems from dealers they take the products back and re-sell them. If it were my money I'd rather buy from the guy that doesn't have to open up a refurbished goods store.

    Using an example of higher end audio if Krell sold via a refurb store and SimAudio I could only buy used or new I would lean more towards the SimAudio as I would question the durability of build quality of the Krell...

    No sir... 7xx and up.

    Also, Yamaha has a very thin sound and I do not like their processing. I would go with the Onk. It just plain sounds better. I have owned both brands and still own Onkyo. I gave my Yammy to my GF. :)

    If you have to have one today and cannot wait. Get the 607. I have a 606 and love it. I just wish I had sprung for the 706, I wasn't thinking that far down the road when I bought it or I would have.
