What tweeter used double magnents on the back that looked like an SL series? And what SDA's were they used in?

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

    No it's not a trivia question. Sorry no prizes. No Pictures either if I had pics I would probally know what they were lol.

    I bought a pair of Polk SDA's years ago now for $650.00 and they came with two extra tweeters and I remember they had 2 magnents stacked on each other and they looked like the SL-2000's but I cant remember what model the polks were or what the tweeter model was.

    When I got these the passive woofer didnt output any bass on the right speaker I tore it apart to see if I could find any reason why but it stumped me both speakers looked identical as did both woofers, so I wound up getting my money back from this fellow.

    It sounds like the tweeters had bucking magnets attached to them.

    It could well be that. I remember they were $1800.00 new when I went to the Polk site to look them up and they had either a 12' or 15" passive and there were more drivers on one side than the other. I think I remember reading on the forum about how this particular tweeter was prone to die so polk discontinued them, of course I could be wrong about that also it was probally back around 2002- or 2003.

    Jim, the SDA series used (from start to finish) the SL1000, SL2000 or SL3000. None of them were known to suffer from a premature death that I'm aware of. However, it was common for folks to install bucking magnets when the speakers were close to a tube TV set to help prevent strange things happening to the picture.

    I cant remember ever seein another tweeter by polk that looked like these so thats most likely the case with the bucking magnet. The odd thing is I remember the magnets being smaller than what is on the SL 2000 but of course much heavier. Maybe it's just my imagination at work here :p
