Crazy system I did today.

Whats up all?
Man I did a pretty high end system today in this older dudes house. He had existing gear that he keeps upgrading. I want him to upgrade the furniture next as he has very old Lovan spike rack stacks that I hate. it sucks to work with and sucks to do any kind of wire management. But he doesn't really care about any of that and just loves high end stuff. Today we added a new Anthem D2v2 preamp to replace a Anthem D2 , He had a Theil Sub and upgraded to a bigger one , He had a SS2 and now he got a SS3 which is big and heavy but it sounds really good and goes nicely deep. It matches up with his 3.7 mains he got which he used 3 of them instead of a center channel . He listens to a lot os SACD's , his collection I think he had ALL of them. Hardcore Audio guy , love em. He has a 60 inch Pioneer Elite running with a DV09 Blu ray by Pioneer ELite . We added a brand new Sony 5400es HDMI SACD player which by the way sounds amazing. I played like 6 different SACD's in it and it's breath taking. Doesn't hurt his entire system is wired in Cardos and has a huge P5 Anthem mega amp. It's a monster with killer dynamic range. The Thiels sounds effortless and full running of it. Power point rears are mounted to the ceiling.
Fully life system in a hardcore not carring room. This dude is just about his system and what can he upgrade next. Funny he still holds on to his Musical Fidelity Tru Visa CD player. It's built like a tank and sounds clear and full. I really like it. Iso pads everywhere on everything except the cablebox and HD off air box he still uses. Fun system.

How did the Thiel 3.7 sound? For whatever reason, I keep getting the urge to spend $13K on two speakers, and the 3.7s are the ones I want.

Very nice install and choice of gear. Personally with hi end gear like that I would have a better room for it all. Seems like a allot of clutter with the china and what not. Nice though.

Is that a window air conditioner in pic 6? I'm thinking maybe he's not quite totally hardcore audio.

What kind of circuit or circuits is that stuff plugged into, may one ask?

The speaker placement doesn't look ideal. Very close together with a ton of stuff behind it. Nice set up he has there. How does the subs compare to ID companies like Epik, HSU, and SVS? The China has got to rattle alot with that setup
How's the PQ with that elite tv and blu Ray?

Nice gear. But honestly, that is one of the ugliest rooms I've ever seen.

Have you suggested he do any room treatments?

the gear is on 2 dedicated 20 amp circuits. One for the amp which takes 2 outlets due to 2 powercords and the rest of the gear and tv is on the other.

It's a old old Phily home which has no central air so .

How's the PQ with that elite tv and blu Ray?

There is 3 front 3.7's. Left Center and right. They are close together due to the seating is only 9.5 feet away. The sub is brand new and was stiff but it digs deep and is incredibly musical. I really didn't get to hear it rip the room up with a killer Blu ray movie. I'm sure I will be going back out there to tweak the system after the sub breaks in. So I can report on that then. We also have a Thiel 5 channel crossover which takes sonic que's from the amp and converts it into balanced level which the sub works like a Rel in a way but with all 5 channels. It's a badass 5k sub and built like a tank. It's a heavy mother.

The Pioneer Elite Kuro / 09 combo is the best in the business. There is no other combo I have seen that has better video performance. NONE.

Correct Tri Vista player , my bad . The Power points are very nice rear channel speakers as well as musical rear speakers. We use them on all our Thiel Installs with excellent results. I'm not a huge fan of Thiel as I think they make ugly **** speakers but sound quality they can compete with anyone in there price class.

Dan, did the owner want the new Sony SACD player hooked up just by HDMI, or did you try out the analog outputs too? Do you have know if there's a difference in sound quality either way? Of course, I guess analog on that player is just two channel out? I've been thinking about getting one. Thanks.

The purchase was for the HDMI out to the Anthem D2v2. He had a Sony 9000es we replaced. That was wired in all Cardos 6 analogs.

I have never installed one before this one so I never tried out the analog performance but it's a ES Sony and all of there SACD players sound as good or better then all others I have listened to. This one is built like a tank and over HDMi sounded incredible.

SACD over HDMI is decoded in the pre/pro, correct?

I have been using the Sony 5400ES for almost a year and love it. If you want multi-channel SACD you need to use HDMI. CD/SACD analog only supports 2 channel, RCA and XLR, and the DACs in the player do a great job. All in all, it is a solid, well-built, good sounding CD/SACD player, and it is reasonably priced for what it does.

You guys act like you've never seen an OLD Phillie house before....come on...!

That's some nice stuff in there and as Mantis said we're not seeing the FINAL set up in his pics...

Some guys are just into audio...and don't have a dedicated underground bunker of appropriate proportions for their gear. I know a guy who installs HIGH END HTs...and all he ever talks about are room dimensions and treatments....OK..but after a while it's a bit tiresome and although his HT Demo room is great for SOUND....it's too CLINICAL and has NO Character....I would NOT say that about the room above.

    Mantis--what a great job!!
