Hello,
So I finally added a Apple TV to my system. I've been wanting to since they first came out and I started Installing them. The hard drive was smaller back then and now you can get a 160g and thats perfect as I also have a network hard drive.
Apple Tv is very cool. You can do a lot with it. Rent movies , buy movies , use it as a music server , control it with your Iphone , Load all your photos which the family loves this feature.
Sound quality wise over HDMI or Opitcal and even Analog( Ok so I had to try all of them for the sheer hell of it) is damn good. I record everything in Apple lossless as I don't care about hard drive space. I got plenty on the network and internally.
Video quality is dvd or better depending on what you are watching. TV shows look to be HD with DD audio. Very nice.
I have not dug deep into it as I want to run it full tilt. I want to max out it's ability and really see what I can do with it. Basically It would be nice to put a few into the system and share them around the house. I'm considering doing so with all gear.
For the price it's fantastic. Apple makes really good solid products. Setup was as easy as hell. It took about 2 hours over the network to load over 60g of info on it which included 3500 pic's , movies , Tv shows and home movies. It's the all in one device I think every home should have.DSC01739.jpg

I've gotta say that the most impressive thing about your rig (which is nice) is you went Lance Burton on the cables! Where the hell are your cables at?! Nice job with cable management!

And now for your next act, your going to saw your Def Techs in half!
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

LOL itunes does not sell lossless if you want that you have to rip your own cd's. HOWEVER there is something going around that that is apples next step but they better have a lot of bandwidth to use.

You do a hack to your apple tv and you can use more features. Personally I would leave it alone.

How does it compare with the Western Digital Live?

I was thinking of getting the WD Live to replace my 5-year-old ADS Media-Link

I'm not sure how it compares. I never used one. But the Apple Tv is very very cool. Basically has unlimited storage as you can use the onboard 160g and stream from all your other computers plus point a itunes library at a networked hard drive which is what I'm doing. I have 5 itunes libraries around the house but with the new Sharing option , I just put everything into one that I want. It's way badass.
If I didn't mention already , the sound quality is excellent. I'm completely happy with it. It's a beautiful addition to anyones system.

I don't have external amps in the rack anymore. House amps are in the basement. I use the Pioneer ELite sc-07's amps to drive my theater system of Definitive Mythos speakers. No need for a external amp. NONE.
