Pretty soon! I need to check over all the costs and customization options and get them up on the site.

Mrs. Ninja and I returned from the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest last night and I am leaving for Oregon on Thursday and then on to Washington for another fest and a bunch of customer installs. Back on the 14th. I'll try and get them up on the site before I leave however I don't know if I'll make it.

Mrs. Ninja and Minion Dan will not be going with but I keep them away from the main site updates mostly ;)

    Welcome Sean!

What kind of time frame, until these are available? Cost?

Especially with audio, there will always be differing opinions and we are 100% cool with that.

For me, I have done countless testing with various bypass caps and find them to be of significant value. One of the main arguments against bypass caps is smearing due to cascading discharge rates. The problem with that argument is the value is so small, any phase shift will be out to ~20KHz and so small as to be of no significance.

That said, I'm not here to try and change anyone's mind.

If someone wishes to order an upgrade with no bypass caps, just put a note in the comments section when you check out and I'll credit the cost of the bypass caps immediately. No problem at all :D

You don't need bypass caps anymore when you upgrade from the stock stuff to high quality caps.

In the LSiC, one board is on the left side ceiling, one is on the left side wall and one is on the right side wall.

Each network is a fully functioning and self contained circuit. The input + and - wires from each are joined at the binding posts.

For the LSi9, only one board was needed and it rests on the bottom of the cabinet.

How mounted: We supply 60 durometer board standoffs and SPAX serrated screws with all networks. A small Skil brand or similar right angle driver makes install much easier or a regular drill with a flex extension.

So, how do you mount the multiple boards in your LSiC or 9's? Do they have wires connecting them to the terminal cups and speakers? Will you have to solder them together after you get them? (reason I ask is that their will not be enough room behind the left or right speaker for all the boards and the cabinet is divided in half by ports. (i.e. - you cannot put everything behind the left woofer and "slide it" behind the right woofer to make room)

Just wanted you to be aware of it. I look forward to your impressions.

Which caps are bypassed directly depends on the size of the main cap and if the signal passes through that cap and on to the driver - meaning there is no point to bypassing shunts for example. It is determined on a network by network basis.

So for our Onix Reference 3 upgrade, the .22 and .33 caps in the super tweeter circuit are not bypassed as they are already so small.

In the GR Research LS9, there is a section in the network that simply feeds power back to the amp depending on the bass management setting. No need for a bypass as it is not in the direct signal path.

    Hope that helps!

Based on that - would the best solution be to use a small value bypass cap of the same line as your other caps? i.e. - say you have a 16uf sonicap gen-1 cap you want to bypass - just add a .01uf or .1uf sonicap gen 1 in parallel and you are done. You should not get the sonic issues of 2 different caps but should still get the benefit of the faster discharge.

Would that work? If so, I will try to incorporate it into my LSi15 crossover upgrade. (and maybe order a few extras for my LSiC and LSi7's)

As another question - do you typically bypass all caps that are fully in the signal path, or just caps in the tweeter circut?

    Thanks,

    Michael

My ears and those of many others here say otherwise.

Of course, you may retort and I'll retort your retort.

I spent a lot of money finding out they are a bad idea.

An update to what we are doing with Ted's speakers...

His Sony TV is reacting poorly with the EMI emanating from the LSiC so we are building him a custom enclosure for the network. We are going to remove the network from the center and place it in the new box and run custom umbilical cables to the center speaker. We're paying shipping both ways and doing it all for free except for the cost of the box. Ted is paying our cost on that only.

Very interesting thread. I will be watching this closely for some final results. Any upgrade to an already outstanding speaker would be simply unreal.
