Since I started getting blu-rays, I have been on the lookout for an inexpensive player to put in the bedroom so I could watch blu-rays in another room besides in my living room. (sometimes other people want to watch something else - annoying I know.)

Anyway - Best Buy has their Insignia blu-ray player for $99. I thought this might work out well for me and thought you all might be interested in knowing about the sale as well....

Please fee free to post and Pro's or Cons to this player to help people make the best and most informed decision for their situation.

I have one, not that same unit but in fact a much older one and it continues to run perfectly. I also had a PS3, and no the load times/etc arent anywhere close but I wouldnt expect it to be anyway given at such a low price. I really do enjoy it though and must say that upconverting was probably one of the best (for the buck) all the way up to 1080p. Now and then the wife and I will pick up an older STD. dvd not available on BD because one of us hasn't watched it yet, and the Insignia just continues to please.

Only thing I dont like is the lack of multi channel analog outputs, but this player will soon go to the bedroom and I'll find something that does. ;)

Arent you glad antibiotics still work for those ;)

Any chance of you popping the lid on this player , so we can see who the oem manufacturer is ? It looks to be a very nice player for the money.

The remote is almost a button for button dead ringer for my Samsung BDP-1500....

:D One of the reviewers ( Who didnt bother to take internal pics  ) mentioned his 1.1 capable and this 2.0 capable were actually identical hardware wise...just the firmware had been upgraded ( For this newer one on sale you still might need to plug a usb memory stick into its usb port to get full compatability for bdlive....not many reviews around and this guy wasnt the sharpest knife in the drawer )

Breakfast ??? I'll buy breakfast ...to this day I still havent made breakfast yet ;)

p.s. Insignia does have a nice support website with easily downloadable firmware as well.....this at 99 should be a no brainer good purchase.

Well, it is something for sale and I asked for others to join in for additional comments to help potential buyers make an informed decision.

It can't be considered a review (as I don't own it), nor a ask for help (as I will probably get it for myself anyway).

It was a grey area so I stuck it in the for sale area as someone may go directly to that area looking for good deals (which this is one I thought) and not look in the electronics section.

Anyway - its here on purpose, but perhaps not correctly..... Mods can feel free to move this to any area they wish.

It served its purpose well though, as I never go into best buy or even look at their ads......and I will stop in and grab one of these 99 dollar players now....thanks for posting this.

I just knew someone would point it out. Does it bother me? Not at all but I bet others will say different.

Not sure how much my wife picked mine up for, because she knew I was getting rid of my PS3 and just ordered me an Insignia BD player online (about a yr ago now). I know it wasnt much cause she wanted to keep it on the inexpensive side seeing as she didnt know exactly what to look for. Im overall very happy with it though. :D

And shadow, make it IHop...got one right around the block and I'm a little hungry

Interesting... Yeah I own a insignia lcd 42 inch, and while its black levels aren't the best and the colors aren't the very sharpest it has never failed on me and is good enough for me. The price for it was phenomenal.

I wouldnt expect you to....nothing invasive...what you did was outstanding :) I am surprised though , your drive uses a ribbon cable instead of a SATA cable ? The 1.1 Insignia NS-2BRDVD used the SATA cable...whats the model number of yours and age ? I see it now....NSBVD....this pic is of the 2NSBVD....so yours must be the previous model....so this one on sale is 2 generations from yours...makes sense seeing ribbons.

I did/and still do alot of computer work so yea I was a bit shocked to see it didnt run a SATA cable. I mean most of these drives are those used for PC's, even the units found inside bose/xbox's n more.

The drive was something altogether different. I could actually look down in the gap between the faceplate and drive and see the disc, the tray stuck out a little bit when in the closed/off position rather than being completely shut. Not that its messed up or anything, but thats how it is.

The rear said Manufactured in July 2008..think we got it in like august or so of 08.

That one doesnt have a fan

Actually thats just a web pic...I have the PS3 and a Samsung BDP-1500....but I am picking up one of the new 99 dollar Insignias tomorrow.

The BDP-1500 I have has worked flawlessly ( After installing the latest firmware ) but it runs HOT...no fan.

Looking at that second generation Insignia, it would be extremely easy to tap into that standard 12v power supply feeding the standard pc SATA type blu ray drive and add your own 12v silent cpu/pc fan.

If my new Insignia is built in a similar way, I will do that for sure. Actually seeing the build quality of that second generation player with it's healthy sized heat sink on the processor, I am impressed.

Motorola or was it Magnavox? Magnavox is made by Funai, and I think Insignia is by Desay. Older Insignia's were Funai's.

You are correct, I meant Magnavox and it is made by Funai. Don't know where in the hell I came up with Motorola, they don't even make players.

If they go on sale for $99 again, I might have to snag one.

Just noticed that the Magnavox BD player, as dicussed above, is now available for $100 from newegg.com:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882226009
    http://magnavox.com/p/index_player.php?id=30

I've seen almost identical Philips/Magnavox video players compared directly before. The Philips units were more polished, with better remotes (not so tacky as some of the Magnavox remotes, usually), but the basic, technical characteristics, can sometimes be identical ... despite a significant price difference.

    Good looking player.
