Nope, I want to bi-amp from the factory stereo. The car is a mr2 convertible, so with the factory setup now, the rear channels from the radio are not being used.

Thank you polk for dropping the bi-amp option on your non-sr crossovers >(

Pioneer Premier DEH-P800PRS. I've used the older model, 880PRS with amazing results. Talk to someone who knows this product and you'll be wanting one.

Haven't bought an HU yet. Looking at either the Eclipse 5030 or the Pioneer DEH-P710BT. Any other candidate HU's, please suggest.

I'm a big eclipse fan, but I am leaning towards the pioneer unless I discover some flaw in it.

Here's what I'm looking for out of an HU:
-Bluetooth calling. If it can sound clear with the convertible top down, that would be awesome
-some form of a configurable crossover to play nice with the polk audio MM6501 and blaupunkt tha 555 amp. I have no rear speakers so I need to figure out the best way to run a 3-way setup - active is possible. MM6501 are 2.7ohm when using the included crossover and the blaupunkt amp is rated 4ohm in bridged mode. Not sure if it will like the 2.7ohm draw.
-most likely paired with a polk mm840 subwoofer - haven't bought this yet. Funds not available
-Clean looking and easy to use without looking as the radio placement is near the stick shift
    -plays nice with nokia 5800 a2dp - a must
-plays nice with 1g zune - nice to have

    amp ratings:
    -4 ohms: 55 watts x 4 chan. + 200 watts x 1 chan.
    -2 ohms: 65 watts x 4 chan. + 250 watts x 1 chan.
    -Bridged, 4 ohms: 150 watts x 2 chan. + 200 watts x 1 channel

what r you bridging for? not mm6501s mm840? amp will b fine using ch 1 and 2 for polk mms. bridged at 4ohms for sub will b fine also

i think cde5030 will b fine with bluetooth, xover, and everything else actually..actually not sure about zune, but i think

    is that eclipse available anywhere??

I would bridge for the mm6501's. I dont think I can run one channel per tweeter/mid unless the head unit supports 3-way x-over. Not sure if between the mm x-overs and the amp I can cover all the cutoffs. Will have to see when the amp arrives next week.

how do u bridge for the mm6501s? i thought your main reason for going HU route was to bi-amp among others..if u bi-amp u will b using all 4 channels. ch 1 and 2 for tweeters and 3 and 4 for midranges. guess your right. if amp supports it(bandpass) your ok otherwise u'd need 3-way HU, which u could use anyway, and/or audiocontrol..

Hah, I decided to go HU route for a cleaner signal and bluetooth since the car is stickshift. I also like the idea of steering wheel remote as I'm always fiddling with stations. That is why I am leaning towards the pioneer 710bt.

I dont want to spend too much on a head unit (consider $300 the ceiling price), but at that price, I can't find anything which has all the features like bluetooth hands free and a 3-way crossover. I dont want to go the processor route either.

    So, plan B:
I scored a great deal on a set of SR6500's. I can either bi-amp them now, or run them in 2 channel mode and bridge my amp to power them (reason i am considering this route as to give my mids more headroom than if I were to bi-amp, of course my ears will be the decider). Since they run at 4ohm in 2 channel mode, my amp shouldn't give me any issues when bridging.

Got a great deal on an eclipse cd5030. I was leaning towards pioneer DEH-P710BT, but after reading too many horror stories about noise in the RCA's and other things, I was put off.

Waiting for my amp to arrive on monday.

I paid $250 for it brand new. I called the shop and they gave me the price, I literally ran over there and bought it. I'd feel bad if that price is under their cost :-0

Yeah, no 3-way. Not sure if I will run them bi-amped or bridge the amp and run the 4 channel part in 2ch mode. Reason being is that my buddy (he recently switched to 3-way active) felt his midbass was much more stronger running his speakers in 2 channel because his mids had more watts of headroom. For me, Bi-amping will give each speaker 55 watts each, or bridging can give them 125w split among a tweeter/mid. His speakers weren't polk though, so I dunno. I'll try both. Bi-amping would give me more tuning options with the EQ on the HU - but I have lots of faith in polk's engineers and the crossovers :)

To bridge the amp, I just connect the speaker wires differently to the amp. Shoot me a PM if you're still interested in the MM6501's. I'm in socal.

u can't bridge em. well u can but u'd only get 62.5w x 2(125w x 2 but since not dvc, only half) instead of 55w x 4. boy would i like those mms..

    No, I'm not bi-amping the SR's. They'll present a 4ohm load, which when I wire to the amp will be 125w x 2.
