    An audiopile will spend more a single tone arm and speaker cables than I pay for my car.

    I don't claim to be an audiophile, just someone who enjoys the audio hobby and the endless pursuit of improving my home system for ever better sonic enjoyment.

    Maybe it is person who is always willing and wanting to explore ways to get to that next level of sonic enjoyment.

    And for me, this would include being an informed and discerning consumer, but open to try things and decide for themselves whether something works or not.

    Like I've said before - for me - this pursuit does not lead to a destination - it is a 'path' to be ever on.

    H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.

    audiophile.....

    An audiophile was crossing a road one day when a frog called out to him and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess".

    He bent over, picked up the frog and put it in his pocket.

    The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful princess, I will stay with you for one week." The audiophile took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and returned it to the pocket.

    The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a princess, I'll stay with you and do ANYTHING you want." Again the audiophile took the
    frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket.

    Finally, the frog asked, "What is the matter? I've told you I'm a beautiful princess, that I'll stay with you for a week and do anything you want. Why won't you kiss me?"

    The audiophile said, "Look I'm an audiophile. I don't have time for a girlfriend, but a talking frog, now that's cool."

    When you spend hours arguing about cables on an online forum! :D

    I think it just means that you listen to music critically. It's not just something that's on for background noise. You actually like to dim the lights, close your eyes and listen to the music. The more you do this, the more you'll become obsessed with getting the sound perfect.

    Here are four definitions. Didn't see anything about "junk rubbing". I'll visit those sites later on this evening.

    An audiophile, from Latin audio "I hear" and Greek philos "loving," is a hobbyist, identified by their love for music, or use of high-end audio
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audiophile

    A person with an interest in high fidelity sound reproduction and its associated technology according to en.wiktionary.org/wiki/audiophile

    One who enjoys experimenting with high-fidelity equipment and is likely to seek the best possible reproduction of music
    www.wrightaudio.us/glossary_of__terms.htm

    A person who is both fanatical and knowledgeable about hi-fidelity sound.
    www.studentsupport.ca/glossary.htm
    Sony 60'' SXRD 1080p
    Amp = Carver AV-705THX 5-Channel
    Processor = NAD T747
    Panasonic BD35 Blu-Ray
    Main = SDA-1C Studio with RD0s, spikes, XO rebuild, rings, I/C upgrade
    Center=Polk CS10, Surround = Athena Dipoles, Sub= Boston 12HO

    I think a good definition of an audiophile is someone who continues to tweak his/her stereo or HT until the time they feal they are either at the concert or in the movie.

    I don't think that you can put a $$$ figure or say you have to have any specific equipment to be considered and audiophile. I think it is more in the persuit of perfection to your own ears.

    I know that seems to be what is driving my buy/sell/trades of equipment over the last year. I keep trying new pieces of equipment until I am happy. Though that might be a never ending process.

    Can't answer this one...but literally, it means, one who LOVES Music (sound)! As is evidenced on this site...such a lover is forever 'chasing' the objects of his/her DESIRE throughout their lifetime (for an analogy refer to Bunuel's "That Obscure Object of Desire")...and it is not clear that the beloved is ever attained because the journey is endless!

    Just one more 'upgrade' please...I can't go yet there's a new piece of gear I have to try out (audiophile negotiating with the grim reaper?)

    If you move your Son into your daughters bedroom so you can make his room into dedicated 2 channel stereo room...then you might be an Audiophile.

    If your speakers are bigger than your refridgerator.....then you might be an Audiophile.

    If you have to shore up your floor to support the weight of your new subwoofer....then you might be an Audiophile.

    If you need a kidney transplant but buy that new set of speakers that just went on sale instead....then you might be an Audiophile.

    If you move your new Maseratti out of the garage to make room for your audio equiptment....then you might be and Audiophile.

    If you have only a chair in the middle of a room of speakers....then you might be an Audiophile.

    If you listen to your music at half volume and car alarms are going off up and down the street...then you might be an Audiophile.

    If you buy a new pair of interconnects instead of fixing the bad brakes on your wife's car....then you might be an Audiophile.
