pioneer sc-05

just came back from BB and picked up a sc-05. i know they are coming out with new receivers (sc-25 and 27) but i couldnt pass up this deal. i got the thing for a steal. Go to your local Bb and see if they are clearanceing them too!

i needed hdmi switching any ways so this was a perfect excuse to buy new toys.

    Nice score. You may see an improvement in bass, depending on how far UP the food chain you went. I noticed it from my Denon AVR-1905.

    Only Magnolia BBs carry the Elite series. Those of us who live in the hinterlands aren't close to those larger stores! In any case, I'm trying to get rid of old AVRs not buy NEW models. Just got rid of two, one more to go! And I still have too many!!!

    I couldn't help noticing your VTI component rack. How do you like it? I've been racking my brain trying to find some new stands for my Onkyo and two emotiva amps as well as my flat screen that I really don't have the appropriate wall for mounting. I've just did a quick google and the prices are nice, i'm just wondering about the sturdiness?

    The vti is great. Well worth the investment. When I bought mine it wAS a realy hard decision too. I ended up with the cherry shelfs, black legs and silver caps. I filled the legs wig sand and it reduces almost all noise from the rack. Also, the seperate shelf isolates the components very well.

    Any advise on setting the sc-05 up? There seems to be endless options for customization that are way above my head...
    Anyone know. Way around windows media connect? I'm a mac guy

    There are a million and one ways to set the unit up. What are you trying to accomplish? Speaker install, component install?

    I just picked up the SC-05 as well...I got it new from Vanns for $600! Unbelievable deal...its on the FedEx truck as we speak :)

    I tried my local Best Buy Magnolia store, and they were willing to give me very little discount. They had a couple left for around $1400 and one open box for $1,100...which was still very overpriced for a discontinued product IMO. I went home a little disappointed until I found the gem on Vann's site.

    hey techmo, how do you have this set up? I was curious because I nabbed a 7 channel amp and was thinking about grabbing this too. My amp has all separate monoblocks, so I was wondering if it would give me any benefits to hook my highs to the power amp and my lows to the sc-05. I was trying to count the channels, and I run a 5.1 system. I figured that I could throw 4 channels on my front highs and lows, one on the center highs, and two more on the highs of my surrounds. Then I could use the sc-05's amp to take the lows of my front and surrounds? Am I completely ignorant of the forces I am dealing with here? Just curious how I could make it all work while still using all my amp channels, irregardless if I use all the sc-05 channels.

    Perhaps someone can shed light on the above post as well as my post here.

    I am running a 5.1 system with my newly acquired SC-05. Would it make any difference or be worthwhile to wire the 6th and 7th channel speaker output on the SC-05 to the lows on my RTi12s?

    Thats way beyond my knowledge...

    I do need some help though. My xbox wont pass sound. it works once every 10 times ish. Cable box works. blu-ray works, HDMI is set to amp and not pass through.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    I'm far from an expert in this matter, but I think you will probablly benefit from bi amping your RTi12's. IF you have a 7 channel amp and it's channels are monoblock you should see an improvement. (I think this is how it should be done) In you receiver switch the setting in the surround back speakers to (Front) Bi-amping, and use the pre-outs to feed two of the channels of your amp and power the lows of the RTi 12. Like you stated, you would use 4 channels of your receiver to power the Fronts. As for the lows, you should have your sub connected to the LFE output (pre-out for a subwoofer).

    People with better knowlege will either correct me or make it clearer:rolleyes:

    Hi there, for you it might not work as well as with external amps, like the post above yours. In his case his amp is a 7 channel, in which all channels are like a monoblock amp. in his case, he should benefit from bi amping...

    I had my RTi 10's "bi-amped" on my PIO VSX-92, and I didn't notice much (if not any) difference. Maybe the SC-05 is different, but I doubt it.

    If you purchased a 7 channel amp and are planning on only running a 5.1 setup why not by amp your front speakers using the amplifier itself and leave the amps in the receiver alone. Go out and purchase 2 rca y-splitter cables and split the pre-out output of your front channels to 4 channels of your amp. Then use the remaining 3 channels of your amp to power the center and surrounds.

    I believe that is very much what I had planned on doing, putting 2 channels of my amp to each of my rti a7's. I then assumed I should focus 2 more channels of the amp on the center, but would only one suffice? My main question was if I had 4 channels of my amp devoted to my front stage, could I then alot one of three remaining channels to the highs of my center and two surrounds, with the lows being covered by the sc-05? I did not know if this was possible or not, so figured I would check.

    The second alternative is allotting 6 channels of my amp to my front stage (2 for each rti a7 and 2 for my csi a6) and then just letting my sc-05 take care of the back surrounds. Might this be the better option?

    PS - I was not sure what you meant about using a y splitter, sorry! :o

    The way I took your post was you wanted to run the highs of your front speakers off of a dedicated amplifier and then run your lows of your front speakers off of the power of the sc-05, is this correct? I guess my first question should have been which dedicated amplifier did you purchase?

    If I were going to do it and your main sources were movie/tv viewing and/or multi-channel music listening, I would bi-amp all three of your front speakers using your amplifier and power your rears using the power of the sc-05. The way to accomplish this would be to purchase 3 y-adapters (http://www.crutchfield.com/p_119IHPY2F2/Monster-Cable-Y-adapter.html?search=y-adapters) and run one from the front left, right and center on the pre-outs of the SC-05 to a channel of the amplifier, one channel of the amp would be unused of course. Then the rear speakers would get directly plugged in to the SC-05. This is all depending too on what amplifier you purchased as well. If your amplifier is only rated at say 75x7 you would just be better off using the power of the 05. Remember too, when bi-amp your speakers, make sure you remove the jumpers inbetween the binding posts as well.

    Maybe the best way to do this is simply to ask the best way to utilize what I have and give everything the best power I can of the highest quality possible. So here is my system:

    2 rti a7's
    2 fxi a4's
    csi a6 center
    svs pb12 ultra
    pioneer sc-05 receiver
    sherwood newcastle a965 7 channel amplifier

    This is what I imagined I would do with everything:

    Option 1:
    2 rti a7's - 4 of the amp channels
    2 fxi a4's - 2 of the sc-05 channels
    csi a6 center - 2 of the amp channels
    Leaving 1 extraneous amp channel and 5 unused sc-05 channels

    Option 2:
    2 rti a7's - 4 of the amp channels
    2 fxi a4's - 2 of the sc-05 channels for the highs and 2 sc-05 channels for lows
    csi a6 center - 1 of the amp channels for highs and 1 sc-05 channel for lows
    Leaving 0 extraneous amp channels and 4 extraneous sc-05 channels


    Feel free to point out places where I am just dead wrong in my assumptions!

    What makes you choose that option from the other? Would the 200 watt center channel not be at a disadvantage if it only had 100-150 watts from the amp to power it?
