Dude,
Crutchfield. For $69 more you get brand new speakers you can break in Mx style and with a warranty for those tweeter birds that I know you like to make sing.
Free shipping right now too.
http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-gRf0cb4xTzu/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=4&g=12000&I=700RTI70B&o=m&a=0&cc=01&avf=N
Another option is I might be looking to get rid of my Paradigm Studio 40s at a really good price (cheaper than these). Better midrange than the Polks, highs are about the same, bass the RTi70s rule 'em. Ah, on second thought you're a bass head and probably wouldn't like the pdimes too much. -
Man explain that to my Dad....
I have been TRYING TO. He *thinks he can get 500 shipped. It just isnt going to happen. Oh well. Whatever. I will wait.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Pj,
What are your Paradigms? Specs? Pics? Stands Needed?
PJ, sign on aim. We'll talk about this.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Mx,
per our discussion bud... I don't think the pdimes will fit your style. Gotta get your dad to bite on those 70s bro.

Gonna try man. Gonna try. Hopefully he will bite the bullet when I have more money by next weekend.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

Mx,
I found that other website. Same price as Circuit City and Crutchfield but no warranty. Your cheapest alternative is SD. Send them an email for a quote. They have a 30 day warranty and that's it. For regular people if there is no problem after 30 days with a speaker then 99% of the time you are good to go for years.
I strongly suggest that with your listening habits you get a warranty from a Polk authorized outlet .. LOL...
I can't wait to read your thesis review on the new speakers when you get them. Get that pencil sharpened...
Insomnia ... me tonight...

If you are cool with Ebay here are a couple links
I would go for this one, and hold tight and not buy it now- you could get an alright deal.

Or this one is fair- But not as good, just another option.

Good luck... -
Vr3Mx,
Why can't I pm you??!!
Anyway, was gonna tell you I got mine brand new for way way less than 500 3 months ago. But you have to know people on the inside
(The profit margin for dealers is crazy), I am pretty sure you can badger someone to give it to you for 500.
Just a thought -- go part time in one of these dealers/cc and get all the deals you want! Since this is gonna be a lifelong hobby, I am sure you won't object to getting them toys for halve their listed price.
Cheers:p -
RTi70s, brand new, in the box, authorized dealer:
$498/pr at Fry's. -
No Fry's near here.
I went to CC, 800 a pair is ludicris. We are going to order them by Crutchfield.
We went to CC today. My Dad preferred the much less expensive Infinity's over the Polks. I agree with his statments but I dont agree with the taste. The Infinity had a smoother top end than the polk, not by much. It also was clearer than the Polk, but with clearness came Hollowness. The Infinity had NO bass and ghost like sounding instruments. To me anyways. The Polk had a much fuller sound to them where as the infinity was Bose. I will let yall know.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

Good move Mx. Hold your ground up to your Dad!!
You think your dad like the price tag better really huh? I've heard those Infinities myself... you said it hollow...
Stand tough!

Ah, but are you going to do a standard speaker wire run, bi-wire, bi-amp, or just replace the jumpers with speaker wire?

Congrats on this huge upgrade to your system! -
Woooo Whooooo!!!
Yo Mx get 'dem bi-wires ready... now you have just added another variable to the equation... to bi-wire or not to bi-wire...
let your ears decide....
Congrats... you will like them a lot better than the RT35i's you had (not that they were bad.. but the 70s just sound a lot bigger because they are
)
You ever figured out if you had a bum amp?? Don't test out that amp on your new speakers buddy..
Paul
p.s. I expect an executive summary review for those who don't want to read a page long disertation and then the at least hour long to write full blown out review which describes every intricacy. -

~~ Hmmm. What better way to burn-in your new speaks, than by seeing how they react to a clipped amp?

PJ,
Yes, the PE was the main problem. I plugged one amp up to the mains each time. Each time I switched amps - whatever amp was on the main out started to have yellow to orange LED lights. This happened on each amp, at the same volume, each time. The amps running on the center and surround ran clean. It is not an amp - it is the PE. Unless you can tell me that all 3 are bummed and my PE is perfect!
Alright - Summarized - then 10,000 characters long...- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
Mx,
The PE huh? Wow another strange one. Did you rotate your interconnects to eliminate wiring? Someone had a wire problem much to my surprise yesterday too. Just in case....
So you got a bum Pioneer Elite preamp section out. That is not cool. What can you do about it?? Warranty?? Get it serviced?
PJ -
When the PE sends a bad signal it is at LUDICRIS levels and I don't think it will be much of a bother to me. Although I plan to get a Preamp later on next year. All depends on the funds.
The PE will be moved to my Dad's to the Advent rig. There I will move one of my GFA-535 over there also. I plan to get an Adcom GFA-555 for the mains then.
So my Upgrade Paterns look to be...
1) RTi70 (Purchased)
2) SVS PCi 20-39
3) CSi40
4) New Wire and Cable (IXOS Wire) (Ratshack Fusion Interconnects)
5) Preamp (DEPENDS ON FUNDS)
6) GFA--555 (DEPENDS ON FUNDS)
I want a rig that can rock the boat.
Right now I have sold most of my audio equipment.
I sold the...
CS245i
RT25i
KLH 900b
Yamaha HTR-5460
M&K MX-90
50 Feet of 16 AWG HD Wire
So I am definetely getting rid of alot of stuff. I will pretty much have an entirely different rig.
I checked wiring, it was one of the first things I did actually. I found no problems unless every wire/cable I own is defective. Which I *hope* is not the cause. lol! But I am about 100% sure it is the PE.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.
