I know the blah blah on the ps3 decoding onboard but how does it compare to a normal mid range 300 dollar blu-ray player thats hooked up with 1.3 to 1.3 .Is it just the same or does the sound get better because ones receiver decodes it. My ps3 aint commin back for another 3 weeks and while my new marantz dvd player does an awesome job for audio, i just cant wait with all the movies i am missin out on blu-ray,So if the stand alone player does a better job then i think its time to buy one and save my ps3 for games

Shouldn't matter if the sound is decoded in the player, or the reciever. The recievers DACS will recieve the same signal. -
If you want an outstanding cd player look for a tube player like a Carver SD/A 490t or something like that. I have had several transports and it is by far the best that I have had so far.Sunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t

if the sound is the same then whats the extra bandwidth for in the 1.3 hdmi cable? Why have the 1.3 if the audio signal can be passed through an hdmi 1.1 cable ? Does this mean that that the ps3 is passing less information

Here's a link to explain different versions of HDMI cables:

basicly you could buy a 1.1 cable and its the same **** is what i gather from that, this spec thang just seems like a gimik to get peoples hard earned cash, next time i buy more cables i am going with quality of manufacturing over diff versions

man i could have bought a better refurbished receiver with 1.1 for the price i payed for my 1.3 onkyo 607
